... and when I say single, I mean as in one person- not relationship wise.

Being single has nothing to do with it, except that you may have more time to give to the cause.

Find people who are REALLY less fortunate. I am speaking of people who have become disabled as a result of a tragic accident or a severe illness and those who have suffered a the wrath of real life as a result of circumstances beyond their control. This excludes homeless people who are on the street begging. Street beggars are usually too lazy to work or too proud to allow their extended family members administer the help that they REALLY need.

Once that is established, you can make the world a better place by visiting them and spending time with them. Don't visit them out of pity. Just visit them to see if they want someone to talk to.

I have learned that when I visit with people who are less fortunate, they don't necessarily want my money or my pity. They just want to have a moment where they can forget about their condition and their situation and for a moment think of themselves as being fortunate. That in and of itself is the best thing that you can do.

My pity will only make them feel worse about their situation. My money will only temporarily delay the effects of being broke. But the quality time spent laughing and joking and talking about everything other than the bad things that come along with real life is priceless.

And THAT is what you can do to make this world a better place.

You as a single person can not make the world a better place to for the less fortunate.
You can join some organization in your local area and help there.
What touches your heart the most to help society? The children, the elderly, the enviroment, etc...

Lots of good advice already, Peace Corp, GreenPeace, World Council of Churches, are just some of the organizations not mentioned. I have a friend who started his own mission, I never paid much attention to it, but it puts engineers into the poor countries where they lead constuctions
so the society can count on wells and buildings for generations, not just years. I have his email address around here somewhere if your interested, write to me.

There are lots of organizations that do things to help the poor. There are soup kitchens, there are missionary organizations and often times local church groups do things. I know our church is in the middle of sending a group of people to Appalachia Mountains of KY to do work for the poor.

There are LOTS of things you can do. The Red Cross, Catholic Charities etc.

And you dont have to go far from home----even spending time with the elderly in a nursing home----poverty comes not only in the form of money, often it comes in the form of loneliness.

Contrary to others beliefs, you truly can make this world a better place. By being kind and showing others how to do better it is like the "pay it forward" effect and it does not end with you. Check out your neighborhood. Also check out Chemoangels.com or Soldiersandels.com Try you local YMCA, volunteer at the local senior center. Trust me, you are needed and you will be appreciated.

Hopefully your church. A good church is worth its weight in gold. They do humanitarian efforts locally and worldwide. Also they do missions work. They support their congregation, the community and the world through the congregations help made up of caring people like you.

well if you want to make the world a better place there is no where better to start than in your own community. volunteer somewhere. be a good example yourself. there are so many places volunteers are needed; hospitals, animal shelters, homeless shelters. pick something and run with it. good luck
