How to deal with Dog Fleas
Dog fleas can be a hassle. They can also cause serious health problems for your dog, including anemia, tapeworms, and allergic dermatitis. You really need to get rid of them, even apart from the annoyance factor. You can use a number of techniques to get rid of dog fleas - first, try to get them off the dog. Flea baths, shampoos, and flea dips will accomplish this. Also rely on regular grooming - it will keep a good chunk of the dog fleas off of your animal.
You also need to treat any place where your dog is liable to go. Flea control requires that you treat your dog's bedding, the yard, and any place he or she hangs out. There are a number of products on the market, and you can read about many on this site. Two of the big ones are Frontline and Advantage, which are basically flea medicines that you apply periodically during flea season and are highly effective.
Vacuum, and vacuum regularly. You can pick up a number of fleas and flea eggs this way. But, be sure to put something in the vacuum bag to kill off the fleas, otherwise they'll just get out again. A cut-up piece of a flea collar is often useful for this. You could also try moth crystals or other things poisonous to bugs for flea control in the vacuum.

Fleas come from outside. The eggs can lay dormant for long periods of time. I would suggest with a problem as bad as this one, to hire an exterminator to not only treat the house but under the house if you have a crawl space and front and backyards. Then if you wait 30 days use Advantage for cats. I find this the best one to use. when you decide to have this done,( after 30 days since the Frontline was applied, or contact the vet for a time frame) apply the Advantage 8 hours before the exterminator arrives. Remove the pets and people and let the company go to work on the house and yards. Most guarantee that if you see a flea within the next 14 days, they will return with no additional charges. Ask about the policy.

Dip your dog, then put Front Line on him. Then close him in a room without any carpet and treat the rest of the house, and your yard.
Arm and Hammer makes a great powder for killing fleas and their eggs. What you do is sprinkle it on the carpet and furniture, let it sit 20 minutes or so, then vacuum. And vacuum again the next day with the powder still in the bag. After that, keep vacuuming every day or every other day for a few weeks.
There are a number of aromatic herbs that seem to repel fleas. Do some research and find out which ones will grow well in your area, if you want to try your hand at gardenning. If not or you're in a hurry, I believe there are other products you can use in your yard- though I hesitate to suggest them because they could kill beneficial insects as well.
Good luck!

1) Vacuum thoroughly (that means picking up toys, papers, magazines, etc and moving furniture) Also you need to vacuum ALL floors and steps. Fleas can jump approx 2-4ft so they can get up and down steps. Include unfinished basement floors.
2) Dispose of the vacuum bag. If you can, take it outside and take it out and also leave it outside.
3) Go to a reputable pest control company and see if you can buy something over the counter. They also will give you directions on how to spray yourself. If not, get a free estimate. It may be worth the money as they have different chemicals to use and also have been trained on how & where to spray.
4)Get your pets treated by a vet the same day that the home is treated.
5) After treating, be out of the house for approx 4 hours so the chemical gets a chance to dry thoroughly. If you are treating yourself, start upstairs and work your way down the steps - don't forget the steps, then the main part of the home till you get to the last room with exterior door (leave that room for last). Go to the basement, start in a corner and work your way to the steps, then up the steps. Spray the remaining room and leave. Once you've sprayed, don't go back into that room while chemical is damp-you pick it up on your feet leaving bare spots.
6) After dry, try not to vacuum for at least 3-5 days so chemical gets a chance to work into the carpeting. Also, try not to mop any linoleum areas for 3-5 days.
7) Usually, this process will be repeated one more time as the eggs hatch. GOOD LUCK

You did not give much information.. such as you have problems or the dog(s) have problem? If you have dogs or a dog and they are the ones having the problem then you would have to do what I had to do two times in the past year.. I first dipped the dogs with a sponge and mange medicine that you buy at an animal store and then I sprayed the total area where the dog goes.. where it sleeps.... where it eats.. sprayed the total area to include the walls. Then I repeated that in a week later(giving the time for the eggs of the fleas to hatch)

Wash your dog with a flea and tick shampoo, then apply advantix or an equal medication to your pet. Use a flea bomb in the house. You will have to repeat in 10 days.

Frontline.
It is the best and you won't have any fleas after about 24hrs. tops after applying it to your dog.
Wal-Mart crap don't work...save your money and get Frontline!
If it's really bad in your carpets and furniture you can sprinkle borox soap and let sit for awhile...it helps but don't let your pets lick on it! Good luck!
