You cant believe in both, because the Bible says: "No one can slave for two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stick to the one and despise the other." Its saying you cant be on the fence; if you believe something, you believe only that, and dont 'kind of believe that too'. My opinion, after reading the Bible, is Strictly that Jesus is GODS SON, and not God himself. If you take a step back and use logic, it becomes clear.. there are some times when it may seem he is calling himself God, but when examined closely with the original texts and wording in mind, it makes sense that it was misinterpreted. (Ex: John 1:1 - "in the beginning the Word was, and the word was WITH God, and the Word was >>A<< god." Notice how it says 'a god' and not 'God'. The original texts really translate to 'a' instead of 'the'. Also, cross-referencing John 1:1 to John 1:18, it says "No man has seen God at any time" ...If you believe in John 1:1 that Jesus is God, then why is he contradicting himself 17 verses later... but if you understand that he is NOT God, the rest of the Bible makes sense... hope that wasnt too complicated :)) It is important for our salvation because if someone offered you 1 000 000 dollars, and all you had to do was do what he says (for your own good) and learning about him and his God ["their taking in knowledge of you, the only True God, and the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ (John 17:3)], You wouldnt be doing the second thing.. and you may not inherit everlasting life. I really hope this was understandable.. I did my best hehe I hope you benefit somehow from this.

Early Christians were preaching to the Jews who are hard core monotheistic, in the that climate they could not proclaim Jesus to be God, there already was one of those and there couldn't be two. The Son of God was therefor the best they could do. When they got to Rome they encountered a plethora of Gods many of which had sons or daughters, which put Jesus in demi-god status, like Achilles, Theseus, Orpheus, and others. That not being what they wanted, and now being in a culture where an earthly being could achieve Godhood, they made Jesus one god out of the many, then began working politically to elevate his status. After their success full genocide of their religious opposition, they then re-wrote doctrine to reflect their new theology. Go back far enough you will find devout Christians who preached re-incarnation, allowed and practiced both same sex and plural marriage, some that denied that women were human and accorded them the same status as any other form of livestock. Historical records are there going back to Pontius Pilate's court records, in which, for the record, there are no references to any of the events described in the gospels. A lot of modern Christians claim there was a cover up, but why would Pilate and the Samhedrin have any reason to cover anything up when they were in complete accord with the laws of the time?

Jesus was fully man and fully Divine. He was never not one or the other while He was on this earth.
Jesus is God's son, the Lamb of God. Conceived by the Holy Spirit, born unto a Virgin.
I have found the God/man idea at times to be hard to understand, so I just believe.
As I do with the Trinity..... again I just believe.

The most important thing is to pray. Look back over your day. Did you do anything or say anything that was sinful or goes against the teaching of christ? Always try to make yourself a better person. I myself, am not a Christian, but I do understand the value of the moral lessons in the gospels. I find that I naturally follow the moral teachings of the New Testament, but if your not constantly checking yourself, it is easy to go astray. A lot of people get very worked up when it comes to salvation, and everlasting life and all that stuff, but wouldn't it be a waste of a soul to have it banished to hell? Especially when the rules are so unclear? I guess my point is, don't worry about the details.U R OK.

Actually, you would need to believe all of it.
Jesus is God as part of the trinity(our word) Father, Son, Holy Ghost. All one in the same.
God sent Jesus to earth as his only "begotten son" to be the perfect lamb sacrifice for our sins. This had been promised a long time ago, and was brought to fruition with the birth of Jesus to Mary and Joseph, fullfilling the old testament writings about how our Savior would come to us.
While here on earth, Jesus (the Word) was made flesh, thereby making him fully man and still fully God.
We are finite human beings, and still truely cannot grasp the full definition of infinite. Mathmatics is as close as we can get to understanding that we cannot understand. We know numbers go on infinately to the positive and the negative, thereby knowing that we can never make them into an understandable circle.

God is one Person with two Natures. That's how it's described by the Catholic Church. Jesus' human nature came from Mary(human) and He also has a divine nature being the Word Himself(the second Person in the Trinity). Saint Thomas Acquinas coined a word for it--HYPOSTATIC UNION. Here's jone descrioption from an early church father:
Clement of Alexandria
"The Word, then, the Christ, is the cause both of our ancient beginning—for he was in God—and of our well-being. And now this same Word has appeared as man. He alone is both God and man, and the source of all our good things" (Exhortation to the Greeks 1:7:1 [A.D. 190]).

THIS WORLD IS DECEIVED ABOUT THIS AND SO MUCH MORE. THEY CANNOT COMPREHEND THAT JESUS WAS THE GOD OF THE OT AND THE SON OF GOD. THERE IS THE SON AND THE FATHER, JESUS WAS THE GOD OF THE OT BECAUSE THE FATHER IS SO PURE THAT NO MAN CAN HEAR OR SEE HIM WITHOUT DIEING.
Re 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
1ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
1ti 2:6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

There was a huge debate over this 1700 years ago, when it was first decided that Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit were all one and the same. 1700 years is a significant number, because it means that for about 300 years, this was not believed by all early Christians. In fact, only the book of John tells the tale of Jesus' miraculous birth. Would you not think that this is something that would be in all 4 books that talk about his life?
I think that as long as we aspire to live like Jesus as best as we can, and follow what was recorded from his teachings, then we position ourselves for eternal life in Heaven.

Jesus is in fact the Son of God, by virtue of the fact that The Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, and caused Him to be born. (Matthew 1:20) This, however, is but one facet of Jesus, who is also referred to as the Word. John 1:1 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." And today, He sits at the right hand of the Father, in heaven.(Mark 16:19)
Believe the bible, and you can believe that Jesus is the Son of God, the Son of man, and the Word, with us from the beginning.
The reason that it important for our salvation:
Jesus had to be a man to become flesh, in order to become a sacrifice for our sins.
Jesus had to be God, in order to descend into hell, defeat it, and be resurrected.
I see that you are a Christian, and I commend you for taking your faith seriously, and asking the tough questions.

Ignore the trinity, even though Christians will swear you have to believe it. It's a It's caca. It has its base in pagan belief. Jesus was 100% man. However, he was a wonderful, beautiful Messenger of God. His teachings are what's important, not how he died. Don't let the Christians trip you up on that. Btw, God sent Jesus to bring people to Him, He didn't send Jesus to die. That's a false thing the Christians try to get you to believe. It matters NOT how Christ died, but it matters wholly what he taught. It's his TEACHINGS that are important, not the crucifixion. Follow his teachings and you won't go wrong.
