I know there is different modles but I went to a Big 5 and they had a standard 870 for 250. I went to a gun store and they had a used one for 300 and when I asked him why this used gun is more then the new one at big 5 he said it's because its an Express Magnum. What does that mean? Whats so special about the 3 inch magnum shells? And is the gun worth it? It looked in good condition.

That guy is feeding you a bunch of crap. Express Magnums should be about the same price as the regular Express.
I know that the going price for an 870 Express Magnum is about 250 with a black mat barrell and flat finish/natural wood stock and forestock. If the gun you looked at had a Blued barrel, or a different stock, that is where the $50 price increase is. 870's with a blued barrell run about 300.00 retail.
Any yes, you want the Express Magnum. If you ever use the shotgun to hunt deer with buck shot or if you ever use the gun to go duck hunting or goose hunting, you will be glad you can use 3 inch shells, trust me on that one.
