stay away from chrysler products( ie Jepp, Dodge, Chrysler), they traditonally get the worst mpg. Toyota get decent mileage, but here recentelly have been plagues with recalls. I personally have an explorer that i pull two jet skis with and it does a good job. It has the 302 v-8 but gets about 15 mpg. Mainly becasue i turn the over drive off when i tow.(I just don't trust automatic transmissions, regardless of the make of the car) and as far as suv's being good off road you are in the wrong car market my friend, they all suck even the fabled Jeeps. I say get what u think is good for you and obvisously you know you need a mid to full sized suv so stay away from the Libertys, Rav-4, escapes, cr-v's, and anything else like that. I suggest the explorer becasue well I am partial to fords and you are wanting the impossible out of the SUV market

If you want to go cheap, you can buy an american car. If you want a brand new suv that will last, look for the 2006 toyota rav 4. Its a lot bigger than the previous generation and it gets 30 mpg(4 cylinder model). The v6 model has 270hp and still gets 28-29 mpg. It also depends on whether you want the optional electric on demand all wheel drive(for off roading and snowy conditions). My family has test drove one and it has plenty of power and room. If it matters, there is an optional third row that folds flat. The ride is very comfortable for its price (starting at $20,000). I think its towing capacity is 3500lbs (v6 model). The car doesn't look too bad either. I think this car is the best you can get for the money, reliability, power and room.

Hybrid SUV is the purely thanks to pass. contemporary SUVS that are optionally made to be hybrids are the Toyota Highlander, Ford get away, and Lexus RS. even with the very incontrovertible certainty that all and sundry of those SUV hybrids fee more effective than the time-honored gas version, you'd be saving gas and money by using switching to hybrid. you may want to as properly be eligible to obtain at tax credit by using finding out to purchase a hybrid. the subsequent motor vehicle i'm getting will definetly be a hybrid SUV.

this might be late but if your looking for an suv with good gas milege then get a traverse but it will depend on the weight of what your towing so other than that a chevy tahoe is a good choice too! I personally had a friend who was having bad troubles with his ford explorer he but about 5,000 in matinence so he sold it and but a 1 year older chevy suburban and it runs great! So go with a chevy or you will be stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Get a Toyota. Ask the dealer about the gas mileage on the RAV4 or Matrix. It will be difficult to go back to the old gas hogs after that.

I'd go for a Ford Escape because they get great mpg, and they have folding seats for your skis and stuff.
