Alcohol doesn't, but yes drugs do! Cocaine can affect the baby. Other drugs decrease fertility, so stay away from them!

Birth defects are more so related to genetics. Drug use is apt to effect the fetus' development when it is the Mother that is a drug abuser and not a one time use thing. Even the use of crack will not cause birth defects, but drug with-drawl. Still a very painful thing for the infant to endure.
Alcohol fetal syndrone is caused by the Mother using a great deal of alcohol during her pregnancy and not just a one night thing.
Drugs and alcohol DO effect the sperm count. It lowers your sperm count but does not prevent conception at all. But that would be related to a "drug addict or alcoholic" and not a one night thing.
Getting "wasted" and getting your girlfriend pregnant is not likely to cause any birth defects.
I applaud your concern and question.

There is some thought that exposure of a male can affect a baby. They do not know much about it yet. Marijuana effects sperm count. It reduces it. There would be fewer sperm fertilizing the egg. There are thoughts about work exposures for men and how they might hurt reproduction. The thing is it is just not known yet. If you are thinking of fathering a child do not mess with it. A baby is born of 1/2 sperm and 1/2 egg. You want both halves to be good. The good thing about sperm is that they are re made constantly. A woman is born with all of her eggs, so if they get exposed to things they are ruined and they get old as we age. Men keep making new ones so if your wreck a batch you have a chance to make more. Try to be clean when you are sexually active. Your worry would be if you wrecked your body due to some exposure.

Alcohol and drugs do reduce the sperm count but not so much that the guy cannot impregnate someone. If this happened a day or two ago then take a Plan B pill and you will be all right. If it was the last day of your period then there is a good chance that you will not get pregnant.

Marijauana. This is because there are chemicals in the womans body that react with the sperm and make it swim faster once it gets inside her body, in order to reach the egg. Some of the chemicals in marijuana make sperm start that process before it leaves the male body. So it basically makes the sperm use up all of its energy, then when it is in the woman's body it does'nt have the strength to make it to the egg, and peters out and dies eraly in the game. A child can catch genetic birth defects from either parent.

Stupidity in the father is not passed on genetically, but drugs and alcohol can mess up the body of the user. Certain drugs can be passed on the the child, but only by way of the mother.

The sperm has already been made. Doubtfull it would cause any teratogenic effects on the baby. However, why not do everything you can to stack the deck in favor of the child. The healthier the parents lifestyle is the healthier the child will be.
