(raises eyebrow) It's not a sin to go to the movies. I think he might of been saying that some of the things in movies or on tv are sinful. (ie. drugs, adultry, fornication, stealing) He probably just doesn't want you to be influenced by what is on tv or in the movie.

You should mention what church that you go to so that people can have a better idea of what type of religion is being discussed here. I don't believe it is a sin, unless you're talking about movies and shows advocating adultery, murder, or other blasphemous things. Also, if this is an Islamic religion, you may not be allowed to watch sports as reported on the news that some people could not enjoy the World Cup in their religion.

What pastor what church? I have never been told that. Some movies may lead you to sin but I would not say seeing movies or watching TV constitutes one.

ISN"T THERE SOMETHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR TIME ANYWAY?
I think that it some instances it would be sinful to watch many things on the tv or in movies these days. Just allowing thoughts into your head can be sinful--listen to your pastor--NOT the rest of the slowly deteriorating morals of this culture!

Are you serious, well, there is a lot of junk out there in the movies, but I would never say it's a sin to go to the movies. Just be choosy and check into what you are going to see.
Plugged In online is a good place to get movie reviews from a Christian perspective. Then you can make a well informed decision.

Viewing them is not a sin. If people watch them, and then go have sex with someone who is married, or kill someone...that is a sin. You might want to change churches if your pastor is distorting the truth.

The sin is trying to control the minutae of peoples' everyday lives by saying such tripe is a sin. You have a quiet little voice (your conscience) which will tell you that this movie or that tv show upsets or offends you. In that case, leave or change the channel.

Because he's an idiot. Sin is anything that separates us from God, and one another. Nothing in and of itself is neccessarily a sin. Paul even takes that view when there was a controversy over eating meat sacrificed to idols, and various arguments amongst Jews and Gentiles.
I encourage you to find a church that isn't full of oppressive, pre-Victorian ideas. Faith should be liberating.

he sounds a bit closed minded to me, and afraid you'll see something that causes you to question him.
Seriously, the best priests and pastors I've had have all promoted experiencing life, and the world around you - as well as listening to others' views. Trying to shelter yourself from all the "sinners" is akin to burying your head in the sand - sure, you don't see any of the bad things, but you're also missing out on the beauty.

Your pastor might mean that most movies contain bad content, therefore watching them is wrong. He doesn't mean that all movies are sinful. If he does, you should ask him why, and then ask him to show you the bible verses to back it.
