You work shifts in A&E right? It'll be your brain responding to not having had enough dream-sleep. It's making you see some dream-images while awake.

Many many things can cause hallucinations. The truth is we all at some point hallucinate its jjust that people dont admit it. Think about when someone dies people often say they see them out of the corner of their eye. or people hear someone shout them and there is no-one there. Spiders are a common hallucination following withdrawal from alcohol, if you used to drink regular and stopped. Also tiredness, fatigue, stress can cause them Dont over react but a brain tumour could (that does not mean you have one, very unlikely). And yes people with forms of psychosis can have hallucintions but to be diagnosed as schizophrenic you need many other symptoms and it really takes over life. Depends on age too but elderly can hallucinate just from a physical illnes like a urinary tract infection (UTI very common). Hope this helps.

I've looked at the answers people have given you and need to correct people that someone has to has psychotic symptoms for six months before a diagnosis of schizophrenia is made. I've worked in mental health for 18yrs. If you have been drinking or tonning it on recreational drugs you could well be experiencing a drug induced psychotic episode, this can continue even if you stop hammering yourself with drugs. If you have been travelling some malaria tablets can cause pschosis. You will need to ask your GP to refer you to your local Community Mental Health Team. Don't leave it if your heads playing up- and don't freak out by all the schizoprenia answers. Tell someone you can trust how you are feeling. Good Luck.

I am not a doctor, but I have some experience in this area. There are different causes which will need to be ruled out to get to the root of it.
The first thing may be to check for schizophrenia. There are different degrees of this mental illness, and it does not mean you are crazy; but some brain activity may be off.
Another cause is known as depression with psychosis, not otherwise specified. Sometimes this may occur in someone who experiences a deep depression or a manic state, which is known as bi-polar illness. People tend to rush to the conclusion of schizophrenia, but find a doctor who is willing to take some time and patience to discover what is causing your particular symptoms. And good luck to you! Peace.

You can get hallucinations if you have schizophrenia, but schizophrenia has a lot of other symptoms, and people would probably know if you had schizophrenia. I was diagnosed with schizo. I also went for a VERY long walk once, and I thought I saw and heard a person talking to me, and saw another person that looked like he was trapped in a car & trying to get out.

there are a variety of mental health illnesses that cause hallucinations. i've had my fair share of them (yay for anti-psychotics!) and they can be serious problems. get to a doctor or psychiatrist NOW. do not wait.

some illnesses related to hallucinations:
schizophrenia
schizo-affective disorder
bipolar I disorder
Psychosis NOS
Alzheimers and other forms of dementia

There are a few others. Do you have any other symptoms? mood disturbances? Paranoia? sometimes extreme hunger or dehydration can cause hallucinations too. Sometimes mixing certain OTC drugs can cause problems too. TALK TO A DOCTOR NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See your M.D. at once. Hallucinations can be a symptom of a number of conditions, from drugs, medication reactions, organic (brain) changes, depression, or emerging mental illness. [The fact that your hallucinations are not "bizarre" makes it less likely to be schizophrenia.]

Maybe it's the heat causing you to see these images. I suggest you see a doctor as it could also be a serious illness. Are you stressed/ under a lot of pressure from work/college etc
