My fiance is in the Army in the special operations unit so I don't know where he is or when he is coming home. I haven't even been able to talk to him in over a week. I live in MS and the minute he gets home I want to marry him but I don't know how to get the proper paper work and person to marry us on extremely short notice. Maybe someone has some ideas I could use.

You should probably wait until he comes home and discuss that with him. He will need to take a break from all stress and not feel any pressures. Then perhaps it could all be done on the base he is stationed at. Most bases have really nice chapels to get married in. To assist you, you could call the chaplain on base and discuss it with him. I am sure they can give you the best advise!

You need to check about license requirements in your state. You will need to both be present to obtain the license (you must show ID). Some states require blood tests, or waiting periods before the license is valid. There are ways to get a license by proxy if one person can't be there to get it, but it is a huge, huge hassle and not worth it.

In Washington there is a 3 day wait from the time you get the license before it is valid. It's a cooling off period, so people don't just jump into marriage. Once you obtain the license, it is valid for 60 days, after which it expires.

Marriage is a big commitment. I wouldn't surprise your fiance with a wedding. He may not be ready to commit to you after getting back from where he is. If he's been gone awhile on deployment he may need some time to readjust to life at home.

Please reconsider getting married right after he gets back. You may not like the person he's become while he's been away. Combat changes people-talk to some wives who's husband's have been deployed and you'll see what I'm talking about.

On occasions such as this I would reccomend a small wedding - at the court house. Tell him that you have a surprise for him. Blind fold him if you'd like. Take him to the courthouse and then have the judge to marry you guys. Congratulations on the engagement, by the way.
