There is no such thing as a "good" church. You are the church or you are not. The objective is to worship in truth and spirit and thereby be blessed (the primary meaning of which is to have God speaking and acting through you... not aquiring personal benefit or gain.). Blessing allows you to be a conduit for good (defined biblically as being of beneficial use to others... you know... like a servant.). The Greeks made "the faith" into a philosophy, the romans made it a clerical order, Constantine made it a government, the europeans made it a crusade, and americans have made it a biz. It is no wonder there is little to no respect in the world for the vast majority of these five times removed pharasitical organizations most call "church" today. Nor should there be. Being a good servant does not require any of them and they tend to make service somewhere between laughable and impossible when you operate on the assumption that you need any of them or their promoters. They won't admit it but they all think Gods' arm is too short.

It depends upon a person's preferences. In the evangelical sphere, it might refer to a Christ-centered church that adheres to five fold ministry and has rousing preaching. For denominations, it can mean that the preacher is interesting and the choir is good.

Generally Christians would claim a good church is focused on Jesus Christ, with Bible based teaching and people who make them feel welcome or part of the church family; also a general feeling that the attendees are there to learn to live out the love of God and forsake hypocrisy.

This is lot more simple than it sounds. People say they are married to a good "man" or "woman", or they have a "good" marriage, go to a "good" school, live in a "good" neighborhood, or know a "good" restaurant. Why is a church different?
If you want them to elaborate, ask them. I don't see the problem.

I think the meaning of a "good church" can only be defined by the person stating it. Personally, I do not define my church as being "good" because the word good does not characterize the experience and teaching that I receive in the "building" that we call church. Also, I would not describe my temple (me) as being good, because the God that resides in me is better than good!!!!

Possibly they'd been to a church where people were snobby and rude, and now, they've found one where the people are kind and welcoming. Maybe they all try to get along and are very supportive of each other. My church is like that.

"Church" is actually the body of believers in Christ. But when people mistakenly refer to going to a good church, they mean they are spiritually fed by the group with whom they worship on Sundays.

well, truthfully, there's no such thing as a good church... most churches claim to aim for good discipleship, but turn people away with thier sermons. some chuches are BETTER than others, however... it is almost impossible to be non-hypocritical AND religious.

I go to a good church. I mean that I like my church and that it brings me peace.

Because i am growing spiritually in the Word of God, i am being taught the Word of God, renewing my mind to His word, which helps me live a life in a manner that is pleasing to God and helps me to prosper, to deal with non-christians, the stresses of life & family, just growing holistically in Christ.

It means it's a church they like.

Why would they continue to go if they thought it was a bad church??
