Here is your answer:
Datsun (ダットサン) is a former brand used by what is now Nissan Motor Co, in order to sell their automobiles in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
The company was originally founded in 1911 by Sotaro Hashimoto and named DAT. It was the first Japanese automobile manufacturer. It was later renamed Nissan.
The financiers who provided the money for the original DAT Automobile Company from which the name is based were Mr. Den, Mr. Aoyama and Mr. Takeuchi. The name was for a very short time DATSON in the 1920s, but later changed to DATSUN when SON was learned to mean "failure" in Japanese.
The name Datsun is no longer used, though still memorable in Japan. Datsun is most famous for their line sports coupes referred to as the Nissan Z-cars and also the Fairlady line of roadsters.
While extremely popular with Nissan enthusiasts, Datsun ran into financial problems, thus the division of Nissan was dropped in Japan. Most people thought this a smart move, considering some Datsun technology was adapted into Nissan's other models.

DATSUN....the name was evolved from DAT to DATSUN.DAT was the initials of 3 persons who contributed to the birth of nissan/datsun...Den,Aoyama and Takeuchi.they then changed the name to datson which means "son of DAT".the "o" in the word datson was changed to a "u" because son in japanese means "ruin" or "loss"....hence the name "DATSUN".it changed its name again when datsun merged with Nihon Sangyo and the nissan motor company was born....the word nissan coming from the first two letters in his first name and 3 letters in his last name with another "s" being added...hence the word "NISSAN"!!!
