I have 3 year old twins....one has been COMPLETELY trained (not even bedtime diapers) for a few months, and the other one does "pee-pee" on the potty, but asks for a diaper to go poop. SHE KNOWS WHEN SHE NEEDS TO GO, but she refuses to do it on the potty anymore. (She actually did poop on the potty a few times in December, but now refuses.)

We have tried to tell her that there aren't any diapers, but she knows there are because she still needs them at night.

We've tried telling her that we are going to get a diaper, and she should just sit on the potty until we come back (and then we naturally stall) but she will actually hold it!

She will even hold it all day at daycare until she comes home so she can have a diaper!

We are at our wits end. 3 years of poopie diapers (remember - TWINS!) has been MORE than enough for me.

Right now we have let her pick out a toy, and we've bought it, but she can't have it until she does 3 days of poopie on the potty....any other other advice?

First of all you are doing two things that I recommend, telling her there are no more diapers and the reward. Make a big deal about the toy. Put it where she can see it but not reach it. Tell her "When you use the toilet every time then you can have the toy."

Count out a few diapers with her. Tell her "After 7 more poopies then you get to use the toilet." Don't give in if she wants a diaper. Put her in clothing that she can easily get on and off by herself, including "big girl" underwear. When she has to go say "It looks like you need to use the bathroom." Give it no more attention than that. If you insist, she will resist. This is something only she can control. If she soils herself, hold her responsible for the clean up. Don't help! She can shake the poopies in the toilet, rinse her underwear out, put them in the laundry, clean herself, and put on clean clothing. She will soon learn that it is much easier to use the toilet. Good luck!

i had a friend where on sunny days she would set her daughter outside w/o a diaper and stick a potty in the middle of the yard. Whenever she would need to go she could run to the potty. Also, use the other child as an influence ( " look at jamie with big girl underwear") Be sure to encourage your daughter, she'll grow out of it! Good luck!

I know your not going to like this advice, but give it time, I PROMISE it will just happen one day. My daughter is 3 weeks older then her boy cousin and my daughter potty trained right away, although pooping was more of an issue. But my nephew would only pee in his diaper and refuse to poop. They would bribe him with everything from toys to candy, but he refused!! Finally one day, he sat on the toilet and pooped and he turned 3 July 9th....so give it time, they just know when there ready and one day she'll get really tired of yucky diapers. Good luck :)

I took care of a girl like that once...her parents let her poop in the diaper..but i made her stay in the bathroom. i told her once she was old enough to ask for a diaper, she was old enough to not poop while playing with her toys. after a few times, the fascination of a diaper wore off. it just let her keep right on doing things..without being around me, i guess she got bored. Also, refrain from food that may make her poop harder. perhaps once it hurt her, and that made her nervous..(less straining in a diaper..it's "safe" feeling. hope this helps!

It could be a 'departure' fear. That they are 'losing' something and are afraid it might hurt them in some way. Apparently this only occurs with the 'poop' and not the 'peeps' in children. i heard a story where the mother allowed the child to 'wave goodbye ' as they flushed it away. It passed soon enough, but does happen to many toddlers. Keep a straight face and have a nice 'send off'.
You could end up with a whole chest of new toys and still no poop in the pot............ Good luck!

This is a really hard thing for some kids to get.First be as upbeat as you can in encouraging your child, TRY not to get upset with your child or it may get worse. Second take the pressure off your self you waited 3 years it will happen in the most a month.

I used to work in daycare....and there was this little 3 year old girl who had 'pooopy" problems. Ok wierd as this is ...it worked. She loved to use the camera. So whenever she went poopy on the potty she was allowed to take a picture of it....lol.....funny...wierd...insane...but hey....whatever works.

Wow not sure my daughter would just go on the potty. Are you putting her on the training pottys or the regular toilet? I know my daughter didn't like to go on the training potty she would rather go on the toilet so I bought one of those dora seats from walmart that just sits on the toilet. Good luck.
