My son loves to take a bath, but when it comes to rinsing out the shampoo he hates it. I have tried to teach him to look up, but he still freaks out and throws his head forward which allows the water to get into his face. Is there any tricks out there that anyone can suggest?

ususally when I bathe my roomie's kids before I rinse out the shampoo i make a crazy noise to distract them like "woooo" and then pour the water that way they don't know its coming. Then give them a towel to wipe their eyes. We also have these little water squirting toys which work pretty good u cna just sqiurt them with the water toy and get the soap out.

My daughter, also 2, is the same way. For me, laying her down in the water is not an option unless I want her to kick and scream. So, I wash her body first and use a small amount of water at a time to rinse; after being comfortable with having the water poured on her (she actually enjoys it and makes me do it over and over!), I move to her hair and work from the back of the head to the top of the head using my hand to block it from getting in her eyes. I used to use a small tupperware container to rinse her hair with, but as soon as she would see me grab it, she would freak out. Instead I just use one of her toy stacking cups we keep in the tub. I've just started doing her hair this way this past week and finally have not had any more troubles! Good Luck!

I have had this problem to, these are some things that I did.
*i used a wash cloth to rinse his hair, probably didnt rinse as good as it should be but, hey the suds were gone
* buy an inexpensive pair of swim goggles and have him wear those so the water doesnt get in his eyes.. and play games while you do that
*a sun visor hat helps so the water doesnt go in his face
* and lastly this one is kind of fun, use a plasitc plant watering can and take turns let him get your hair and scream in a playful manner and then tease and say I am gonna get you and do a little, takes some time but it is playful.. and with time he will grow out of it

Dampen a washcloth, squeeze it out well and let him hold it over his eyes as he leans forward. It'll give him a feeling of control and he won't notice when the water gets on the cloth because its already wet. Also practice breathing through your mouth with him and count with him as you rinse, it'll go quicker that way.

Try putting a little line of vaseline across his forehead at the hairline & then using just a little water on a washcloth of rinse his hair with while he holds his head back.

Or try letting him hold a washcloth over his eyes while he holds his head back while you rinse.

wash his hair first, before you add any soap to the water, lay him down in the tub, and get his hair wet, then sit him up to shampoo, then, simply lay him back down in the tub, and use a wash cloth to wipe all the shampoo out of his hair, his face never has to get wet! by the time he is 4 he will be rinsing it out all by himself.

Get him some goggles or put a wash cloth over his eyes so that the shampoo can't get in his eyes.
