Thanks for posting the full details. I was puzzled by this when you first posted, now all is clear.

It is not Cognac - I can't see where that idea cames from - and it is not an 1846 vintage.

It is Dubonnet - a famous vermouth drink used in France as an aperitif and mixer in cocktails. (vermouth is a blend of wine, herbs and spirits)

The 1846 date refers to the date the company was founded, not the age of this wine.

How much is it worth? Very little, if anything, I'd have thought. Dubonnet doesn't improve with keeping and anyone who wants to drink Dubonnet would be better off buying a fresh bottle from a store rather than a second hand bottle of dubious provenance.

Sorry, you can't give up the day job yet.

I don't think that cognac was made in 1846. "maison fondee en 1846" refers to the founding of the company (maison = house). If there is no other date on the labels, it isn't possible to tell how old it is. However, since it is labeled cognac and is from France, there are probably French requlations requiring a minimum age.

Edit: I guess i was thrown off by your question and assumed it was labeled Cognac. Pontac is right, it is not Cognac, but Dubonnet, an aperitif liquor.
