That would be pregnancy, cat style.
Good on you for taking her in and to the vet.
Ask the Vet for lots of advise for caring for a mama cat and the babies. Also, schedule her for a spay as soon as the babies are old enough.
Good luck and Congratulations.

If shes large you can probably feel the babies move around. You also need to be feeding her kitten food, perferably high quality brands such as Nutro Natural kitten formula. If you can't afford that use the Purina One kitten formula. Go ahead and take her to the vet asap, she could have kittens any day now especially if shes really large. Also google cat pregnancy and it should turn up lots of info on what to expect when she starts to give birth and stuff. You also need to go ahead and set her up a nesting box in a quiet part of the house, if you have any other animals keep them away from her. A laundry basket with towels in the bottom works great as a nesting box. You need to be sure to be feeding her alot of kitten food too, as much as she'll eat. Be sure to give her fresh water and lots of love and attention. Since she's a stray she probably has worms so she needs to see a vet asap, they can be dewormed when pregnant but most likely you will have to deworm the kittens too.

my cat the same they only carry the kitties for like 2 to 3 months more around 2. she'll get huge and you'll be able to feel them kicking and moving around.when she's ready to have them you'll hear her howling it'll be bloody and you might want to put her in a smaller room, i put mine in the bathroom and kept the cuboard doors shut bathroom door shut area rugs up and put down a blanket i didn't care about' some old sheets will do. she will try to hide them all over the house if you don't do this . once i had a cat i came home from school and there was blood all over my bed under my nightstand put it like this, everywhere! i learned after that. also have a big cardboard box or even a big tote ready with clean sheets in it for them to stay in after the delivery.mom will eat the afterbirth, this is gross and normal she'll eat it all right up to the umbilical cord and just leave a small bit of the cord left.try not to handle them too much especially that she's a stray. to get em in the tote use a washcloth do it fast to not alarm mom get her in asap so she's not susp.of what your doing you dont want her to freak out on you.cut her nails everyother week, just the tips of them on the front paws no more than a centimeter thats all you'll need to make them not so sharp just get her in your lap on her back restrain with one hand extact nail n clip.she'll get used to it if you keep it up.also feed her good ,always keep dry food available and 2 cans of food a day morning and night plenty of fresh water change 3 times a day/. keep kitties in seccluded area of house good luck

A vet wll be able to answer these questions for you. As well as spay her. Hundreds of cats and kittens are killed each HOUR, due to lack of homes, you don't want to contribute to that do you? edit: No-kill shelters trade off animals they deem unadoptable. They don't personally kill them, but they do get euthanised. Shelters are JAMMED pack with cats right now. If it's a stray, they MIGHT get 7 days to be claimed. Every cat that enters the shelters forces them to put down another to make room for that cat. edit WAY TO GO BOB!!!! I loved reading that. best answer right there. I rescued a mom cat and 4 kittens. I'm looking at $300.00 for the first vet vist and that's just for the kittens, mom's visit will be later on.

Well, she would be protective of her stomach area and might bite or scratch if she feels uncomfortable. She might also moan and meow alot. If she is pregnant give her some space.
