Is the letter of the law the important thing or is the heart of the law the most important? Too many of us get caught up on the law and lose sight of the meaning behind it. Like how much should I give? How should I pray? and one of my favorites When and how often should I go to church? "The LAW demands little but LOVE demands much."
Peace Be With You,
Debra

For those who say Christ followed the letter of the law remember He healed people on the Sabbath and He allowed his disciple to pick wheat on the Sabbath."Man was not made for the Sabbath but the Sabbath made for man."

Christ did keep the law; He said so Himself:
"I have obeyed my Father's commands, and I remain in his love. In the same way, if you obey my commands, you will remain in my love" (John 15:10 NCV)
Jesus only went against the traditions of the Jewish leaders not His Father's Law.

The primary thing people forget is who Jesus was and what he was not. He was not a philosopher, part of a clerical hierarchy, a government, a crusader, or a businessman. He was a servant. He did not advocate any of those things. He acknowledged their existance and the fatal flaws of each. What He advocated was a daily relationship with God in your heart and home that reflected a life of 'being of beneficial use to others' (the biblical definition of the word good by the way). He advocated a life of blessing (a primary meaning of which is having God speaking and acting through you... not personal gain or preferential treatment). It is sad that people think they need all this 'stuff' that Jesus himself didn't want to be part of. It is telling in regards to just how far from Jesus the vast majority of so called Christians are today.

Matthews 5:17-19
Lets see what Jesus said -17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Love is the fullfilling of the Law, if you love you won't steal, covet, murder, lie etc... If you love God, you won't worship another God, you won't take his name in vain, and you will keep the sabbath holy.
Matthew 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
All of God's commandment have something to do with either loving him or loving your neighbor. If you love you will fullfill the law. Romans 13:10 - Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Don't teach breaking the law because it will cause you to be least in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus didn't come to destory the law but to fullfill it. When Jesus died only the laws of sacrificing animals were done away with. But the other laws are still in effect. Do your research.

The heart of the law.
Like modern law sometime (most of the time) the letter of the law is applied tell it is unrecognized from what it was intended to do.
What's it called when a busload of lawyers goes over a cliff?
A good start.

The Spirit of the Law (which is much more than the Letter of the Law).

The heart of the law (and yours and mine) is what matters. Bottom line, Jesus only stressed love as the rule. Law, though necessary is enslaving.uy

We have our free agency to do as we think best for us. A lot of laws are not good and not observed very well. I am sure Jesus looks the other way at those times.

Both. If we just follow the letter of the law without love than it is meaningless. If we just follow the heart without obeying God then it is lazy.

The original, unchanged revelations given to Abraham and other prophets(like Moses and Jesus ) reaching back to Adam all came from the One True God(The Creator). This common origin explains their similarities in many beliefs and values
However, over time the teachings of the various religions, due to a variety of reasons, have become distorted and mixed with made-man ideas.
The last Prophet and Messenger of God, Muhammad , who is a direct descendant of Abraham through his first born son, Ishmael, was sent with the Last Guidance, Revelation and Testament, the Holy Qur'an(koran) to amend and correct the changes and corruption made to the the "Torah" which was sent to Moses and theTrue Gospel of Jesus. To say the truth ,God preserved all the other Holy Books plainly by preserving His Last Book the Holy Qur'an(koran)which contains the right and the truth of all that was changed in those other Books.
Truly the likeness of Jesus, in God's sight, is as Adam's likeness; He created him of dust, then said He unto him, "Be", and he was. (Qur'an 3:59).
And when God said. 'O Jesus son of Mary, did you say unto men, "Take me and my mother as gods, apart from God?" He Said, 'To You be Glory! It is not mine to say what I have no right to. If I indeed said it, You knew it, knowing what is within my soul, and I do not know what is within Your soul; You know the things unseen. I only said to them what You did command me: "Serve God, my Lord and your Lord." And I was a witness over them, while I remained among them; but when You did take me to Yourself the Watcher over them; You are the witness of everything. (Quran 5:116,117)
