Every machine (and recipe) varies. To get a really firm set on my automatic machine it takes nearly two hours. If the ingredients are soft frozen and the bowl is frozen, it will set up more quickly. Sometimes I make a cooked custard. I have made it into ice cream starting while it is still warm and it takes nearly 3 hours to firm-up.

I've had two kinds of ice cream makers: one comes with a metal cannister that you have to freeze a minimum of 12 hours and the other is ice and salt dependent. Depending on the weather it will usually take a half an hour, but with warmer weather or not enough ice, it could take upto an hour.

Depends on the kind of freezer you use. Can you find the manual. You usually run the machines until the mixtures thickens and gets real cold and the motor bogs down. But after that you are supposed to let it set for a little while to proof, I can't remember the term. Me, I'd have to dig in right away. Do a quick web search using the terms 'ice cream recipe'. Good luck.

2-3 hours, I have a Cuisinart ice cream maker and after it has churned and I pack it in a freezer safe plastic container, it takes a good 2 hours to firm up, check it, just poke it to see if it is firm in the centre, like testing a cake, use a toothpick or bamboo skewer.
