I do not have a common last name and wanted to know what it means. My name is German. Anyone know of a good free website to find the meaning?

when I did a search of my maiden name in google... I found website that even had my family coat of arms on it.. now I know that isn't German.. but a simple search could possibly give you hints on where to go next.. and you may find someone doing the geneology and be able to contact them via email. Or go to online genelology sites.. they sometimes discuss family name origins. www.lds.org has the best site for geneaology. Good Luck!!

It's a hard question to answer since we don't know what the surname is and you tell us that it's uncommon. Give us something to work with and we'll be happy to point you in the right direction.
Otherwise, contact a professor of German Language and Literature at a university and ask for help with the origins and meaning of the name.
