Most gays support the far left and its marxist agenda to deconstruct american culture, in the hopes that, by weakening marriage, they will somehow gain more advantage for themselves in our society. Since that is inappropriate, most conservatives oppose them (as well we should).

However, I wonder if many gays know what liberals really think of them and what their goals are outside using them to try and destroy our democracy. Marxist writings are flagrantly racist, sexist and anti-gay. Here we have a perfect example....the ACLU working hard to support a vicious anti-gay hate group, that wants to spread its "God hates FAGS" message in the most inappropriate manner, at military funerals (these people are nuts). Why would they do this? It doesn't make much sense until you find out that this group is a far left group (most hate groups are). The ACLU shares their attitude toward gays as do most liberals.

Lad -- let's sort out trained rhetoric from reality shall we.

1. The American liberal movement has essentially NOTHING to do with traditional leftist groups ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. If you refuse to accept that simple truth -- then frankly you are completely incapable of dialog.

2. Regardless of what you or some wing-nut writing for newsmax thinks -- American liberalism supports gay rights, as do many, many moderates. Of course, American liberalism has nothing to do with Marxism. As for the ACLU working to protect the Reverend Fred Phelps -- I should hope so -- we (my partner and I) give money to the ACLU to PROTECT ALL PEOPLE AND FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are people like you capable of understanding that my ancestor (Colonel Ebenezer Reynolds) who died in the Revolutionary war died so that EVERYONE could be free???? I don't think you are sir. I pity people like Reverend Phelps, and even more his children -- more than you can imagine or would dare credit me -- and I think he is utterly wrong -- but I don't think he should be silenced. This is a free country. I think he has the same right to speak that I think you do, and for exactly the same reasons. You are just as much a wing-nut as he -- at least this post of yours is -- you are just as misguided, and you appear to me to lie just as much. The Constitution and Bill of Rights protect both of you, and well they should.

As for Phelps being a Left-winger -- I refuse to believe that you could possible be as deluded as you appear. I can't imagine that you don't know you are telling an untruth here. Fred Phelps is FAR from far-left, or even liberal, or moderate. The nature of the coalition on the American Left is such that by its nature it rejects homophobia. Oh, Phelps is, or was, a Democrat -- but that hardly makes him even a lukewarm liberal -- particularly in Kansas. You KNOW that he is a Right-winger. This brings me to the issue of gay marriage.

If you were any sort of patriot, or any sort of an educated person you would know what the gay marriage battle is all about -- and I suspect you do. It has NOTHING to do with a battle between left and right, NOR is it a battle between religious and non-religious. The battle over gay marriage is a battle between two groups of people of faith, using the government to establish one side’s views -- the EXACT THING that the anti-establishmentarian clause of the Constitution is there to prevent.

Of course no one should "make" those whose faiths oppose gay marriage perform such marriages, and no one ever would. So ministers from the Southern Baptists and Assemblies of God and Ultra-Orthodox Jews and Fundamentalist Muslims should never be asked to perform gay marriages, and certainly not forced to.

On the other hand, why should faith groups that support gay marriage -- such as the United Church of Christ, the Unitarian/Universalist Society, the North American Spiritualist Church, Reform Judaism, and the Correllian Tradition of Wicca -- all recognized Churches and 501c3s be barred from practicing their religious faiths, which say it is ok to marry same sex couples?

The first group of faith groups is realistically using the government to prevent the second group of faith groups from practicing what they believe and having it legally recognized. The founders tried to prevent this, for the stability of the country. It doesn't matter that everyone "thinks" they are right and others are wrong -- it matters that we are plural as a society and the government should recognize everyone's ceremonies the same -- which means that gay marriages committed by churches and faith groups that believe in gay marriages, should be honored by the government regardless of what groups that don't like it say.

Everyone's beliefs can be honored, thus preserving the values that my 12 times removed Great Grandfather died for -- but not if we allow one side to legislate away the rights of the other side.

Since I do not believe the government should be used to control religious belief -- I think that the government should recognize gay marriage, when performed by members of clergy -- and should create a civil union equivalent for those interested only in secular marriage.

Otherwise we should stop saying we don't have an establishment of religion. And I think sir that you know perfectly well that this is what is going on, and WANT to see freedom of religion, along with all the other freedoms we are guaranteed, overthrown.

Propaganda means **** -- and you sir get the honor of being the first person on Yahoo answers to so disgust me by your extremism that I have screamed at you -- stopped in the middle of the post -- and wanted to spit. You disgust me in ways that, again, you could not begin to comprehend. If you are a patriot, get your head out of your *** -- and if you aren't, which I rather suspect, but rather a puppet for the extremists and the wing-nuts, then admit you care nothing for America as it was conceived by our ancestors, and get out of the country -- go somewhere that shares your fanaticism.

Regards,

Reynolds Jones

I don't hate anyone my Friend, not even you.Mehlman just proves conservatives are human. If Martin Luther King's niece wants to stand with Glenn Beck that is fine too on the anniversary of MLK's I have a Dream speech I have no problem with that as well.We live in America and if I am liberal enough to allow a mosque to be built near ground zero because I believe in freedom of religion then surely I am liberal enough to realize other viewpoints that may run opposite of mine have a right to be heard as well! That is how liberal I am.

Boy do you know how to take a couple of unrelated fact and twist them into a poison pretzel!

First off, the vast majority of American liberals are not pursuing a Marxist agenda. You purly made that up.

Secondly, the ACLU protects the First Ammendement to our Constitution. The readily admit that sometimes the person or persons who seek this protection may not hold popular or even tasteful positions. But they are defending the Constitution, not the point of view of the person or group who is being denied the rights afforded by it.

Thirdly, I prefer liberal friends over conservatives any day, as you guys kill gays and hang them on fences to rot.

Wow. I don't even know where to start. You've clearly allowed yourself to be brainwashed by the right, so I'm going to start with the evidence of that: no one's trying to destroy marriage. We're trying to get equal access to the legal aspect of it. That's all. I don't understand how that COULD destroy marriage; like...if we all get married and then divorced right away, aside from screwing with statistics what would that DO? That shouldn't effect you or your relationship unless it's a really weak relationship to begin with, in which case maybe you shouldn't have gotten married yet. Both sides understand the ACLU; they're about freedoms, including the freedom of speech. The legislation in question is trying to step in where common human decency has failed. There shouldn't be a law, but there shouldn't have to be a law. The phelps clan makes their money on pissing people off though. The ACLU is not making a statement about their feelings towards gay men and lesbians; they, by definition, have none. They ARE making a statement about the freedoms of speech, even speech some of the individuals may happen to disagree with wholeheartedly. That you can't see that makes me question your political savvy. Your generalization of most liberals hating gay men and lesbians...what do you hope to achieve? You're certainly not going to convert us all to republicans (those of us that already aren't; google "log cabin republicans"). I'm curious about which other hate groups (The Westboro Baptist Church, btw, is FAR from liberal) you would consider leftist.

As for your original question; yep. We get it. There's people ALL over the place who want nothing more than to tell us how disgusting we are. Whatever. I'm having no impact on their lives, and my recieving equal rights with the rest of society would also have no impact on their lives. They need to get over themselves. I would still bring up, though, that three quarters of this country support equal rights for GLBT people, even if a third of that number feel a little hesitant about marriage. Sorry, do more homework next time.

"until you find out that this group is a far left group" uh...you seriously hadn't heard of the ACLU before?!

I'm glad someone brought it up. To liberals, gays only mean votes and caampaign issues. Conservatives are more voval about how they feel people should be, but liberals only want gaysas a campaign issue. They could care less about us. Why is it that the gay community supports other cultures, but those cultures in turn do not always support us? Same with the liberals

I hear a tone in your question that denotes extremism and, as you mentioned, marxism. All liberals are not extreme, and it is not a bad word! I am both gay and liberal, but not a radical.
So, I answer your question with a "no", and I do not see your point strongly enough proven to change my mind. Freedom of speech must be upheld as a basis of all freedoms. Even the "SPAM" e-mails we all hate so much are protected by "free speech". If we let it crumble though, there would be great losses that are not always seen beyond the surface issues.

I found that interesting, too, considering that the Soviet Union was anti-gay, which was one of the reasons why ballet dancer Rudolph Nureyev (can't spell his last name) left the U.S.S.R for the U.S.A.

Communist China (back in the 50s) believed that sex for pleasure of any kind was disgusting and held back the ideals of Communist revolution.

Being a Christian, I have a big problem with Mr. Phelps' message about "God hates fags." God loves everyone because everyone is a sinner. It's just that God hates the sin. The Christian community has a problem with Phelps because he practices hate rather than love (I think every person with common sense doesn't like Phelps).

There is no far left in this country. No one has a Marxist agenda. As for destroying democracy, look to the present administration. Voter suppression, pay-to-play politics, corruption, the medicare and bankruptcy bills, unfunded mandates like No Child Left Behind, no-bid contracts for the Vice-President's company (yes I know he is no longer Halliburton's CEO but he still gets paid), buying votes using our money with "faith-based initiatives". As for that loony Fred Phelps and God Hates Fags, the ACLU is defending nothing more than free speech. It's in the Bill of Rights or something isn't it?

Firstly, do you know which planet you're on?

Secondly and lastly, the ACLU works to protect the US constitution which, by the way, safeguards freedom of speech...for all citizens Protecting the constitution is the ACLU's *only* focus.

The ACLU is NOT a social advocacy organization and by working to protect the freedom of speech by ALL people and/or organizations they are protecting YOURS and OURS as well.

I'm a Progressive (or Liberal if you prefer) knowing fully my political peers and their philosophy; therefore, the remainder of your Question requires no further attention.

Best Wishes!

PS: Card-carrying member of the ACLU for over ten years.

the ACLU is not a gay group they're an extremest group who believe in absolute freedom they support us on some issues and oppose us on others just like everyone else, but its truly republicans who have brought us to the brink of bankruptcy, dismantling the constitution and creating a christain (by force) nation in direct opposition of what this country was founded on....freedom from religion
