anyone know how effective? apparently the original percentages given had to be reduced by some 90%. Is the results of dealing with countermeasures now classified, and has the government accountability agency criticized the missle defence agency for poor quality control in development?

Obviously they work, they shot down two planes, didn't they? :-)

The Patriot missile system is a human operated system, errors of that magnitude are and should be attributed to humans. A weapon system is only as good as it's user.

The Patriot missile has been proven under combat conditions. The friendly planes that were shot down failed to turn on their IFF (Identification - Friend or Foe) gear and were not flying in a safety corridor.

Another thing to remember is the fact the the people who criticize US weapons have a nearly 100% perfect record for being wrong.

The Patriot Missles have had success in shooting down incoming Missles Most notably in Gulf War 1. They have however shot down several planes when mistaken somehow as incoming missles: No weapon is perfect. As for now it appears to be the best thing we have at shooting incoming missles.

NPR is a leftist, anti american institution. Don't believe anything you hear there. Patriots work sometimes, but not always.
