I really admire the ACLU. Yes, they defend scumbags sometimes, but most often the stick up for regular folks whose civil liberties have been stepped on by the government or someone who is more powerful than they are. You can't say that civil liberties only belong to people who aren't a$$holes; they have to belong to everyone, right or wrong.
I always think of the quote that goes something like -- I completely disagree with what you are saying, but I'll defend with my life your right to say it.

Nope, not at all. They defend the letter of The Constitution against abuse by the government. While some of the people they represent may be unpopular in the eyes of some or all of the public, they provide a very valuable service in ensuring the checks and balances provided for in OUR Constitution are enforced.

The ACLU is the most dangerous organization in America. they're worse then the actual terrorists. See they think that everyone deserves freedom, and liberties and crap like that. The reality is only some of us can be trusted with it. When our founding fathers wrote the bill of rights they did not mean for it to apply to gays and non-christians, they only meant it to apply to freedom loving americans. they stand up for an individuals rights guaranteed by the constitution. Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the declaration of independence and most of the constitution (and for all you neocons He was an obvious liberal) said if i had a choice between having a government and no free press or no government and a free press I'd take the latter. all of the founding fathers of our country were liberals that's why they guaranteed the rights of citizens.

the ACLU is a joke now. They don't protect the liberties of American citizens. The first word is AMERICAN, so I don't understand why they're defending illegal immigrants.

Who else will protect our civil liberties????? The government, this administration in particular, is trampling our civil liberties in the name of a war on terror.
If you REALLY don't believe in BIG GOVERNMENT, then you should have no problem with the ACLU.

I dont have to believe in what you say or do to be able to defend your right to say it. When one person, loses one liberty, then we all have lost that liberty. I may not believe in what you say but I will defend your right to say it here in America,thats what this country is all about Freedom..
