Most wireless phones in homes (not cell phones) use analog signals to send the conversation from the base station plugged in the wall to the handset. The older models use the 900 MHz range, which is a radio frequency. Radio scanners can scan that frequency to pick up the signal being transmitted to and from the base to the headset. IF the signal is being sent in analog.
