Now, I came over this in a statistics book, which I decided was relatively accurate so far, then I seen that 50% of Americans believe in the Devil - is that a load of bollocks? Now, obviously no one person knows the answer if they are just guessing, so any Americans here state what way you believe please and we can do our own poll, but if it's anywhere near 50% then shame on you that's seriously sad. If not, then sorry, but it just sounds like American beliefs to me.

WELL ONE THING's FOR SURE - THE BOOK WAS ACCURATE! lol

I think it is a bit pathetic that today, in our modern age, we believe in the devil - there is no - ABSOLUTELY NO evidence of his existence, but because you believe in God you think there's a devil since he is portrayed in a book? Don't mean to offend if I am, but sorry, I took a step back and believe in my heart, as God has done nothing for me that I know he did. Nothing. He didn't pull you back from that car that was speeding down the road, that was a passer-by.

Then what exactly made you think, sorry, know the Devil is real, or for that matter, God? I mean, isn't the science of it far more likely? Did God create the Earth in 7 days? A few thousand years ago? Now, THAT'S a disgrace.

Sorry that you're one of them, but you are misleaded like so many others out there. The little game doesn't make sense, I have my mind and always will have it, and I will absolutely NEVER believe in something so ludacris and with no evidence to say he exists ever! I mean, where is he? Eh? Under the Earth you all assume? Impossible! How could he have been created? How could he withstand those extreme temperatures and survive? I'm so sorry, but when you die you will see that death is darkness which you will not feel, not know, not hear, see, sense, touch and live. That, my friend, is life. I wish I could believe in a heaven, as does everyone else in the right mind, we all wish we could live forever, but humans have simply made these beliefs up, based on your true fear to die. Not in a position to judge anyone else as I'm in the dark? No. You have simply already made the judgement - that they do in fact exist. You have judged your own very selves and your destinies to something very false

I'm not American I'm Welsh but I just had to answer your question. I don't believe in the devil or god and if I did I'd probably say that god was truly the evil one, but I don't. But I know 100% that there is life after death. I have heard and seen with my own ears and eyes and I have also felt their touch. I never used to believe though as its a very hard thing to prove but I experience the proof once every year now and I have done since 1996-7. I was always scared of dying before then, as like you i believed you died and then that was it the end.But its not the end I believe its a better place than here, but I don't believe its heaven. And as far as I'm concerned this life here on earth is our hell. But now the only thing I'm scared of when I die is leaving behind my children.

Hi, "lewis r" -

For the record, I do not believe in a god, the devil, heaven or hell.

If true believers answer this question honestly, they will have to say, "Yes, there is a devil because my bible tells me so." The bible clearly tells them that their god created lucifer and lucifer became the fallen angel (AKA: satan or the devil.) If their god had not created lucifer.....

Their god kinda confirms this in Isaiah 45:7. I am the light, I am the dark. I am the good and I am the evil. I am all things. Without me there is nothing. (Not an exact quote, but close enough.)

So near as I can tell, their god not only created the devil but actually IS the devil (I am all things.) This same god let his only son die (the devil made me do it!) And the believers want the rest of us to be like them.

Remember, this is how a believer would have to answer your question if he's being honest. :-)

Yeah... and 47% of Americans believe that the earth and the universe were created by God in 6-24 hour days, somewhere between 6,000 and 10,000 years ago.

Polls show that American religious beliefs are more consistent with backward 3rd-world countries, rather than with modern advanced, modern industrialized powers, where we should be.

It is very frightening... especially so, considering that there is presently a right-wing fundamentalist conspiracy underway, which is intended to transform the USA into a Christian theocracy, followed by the rest of the world. Unless people wake up to this soon, they might very well succeed within the next 20 years.

Be afraid... be very afraid.

What exactly do you mean by believe in?

Do you mean believe that he exists?
Or do you mean put their faith in him?

What's so sad?

Don't you believe he exists?

Generally, when people say they believe in the devil, it means they believe in the existence of the devil. As you are as much in the dark as anybody else, you aren't in a position to judge anybody.

If they bow down and worship him - that's just being completely out of touch with reality. Read the Ethiopic book of Enoch, guys.

"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist."

Let's play a game.

I'm going to tell you your future.

When you read this write down the time and date, copy and print what I've written. Mark in your diary or calender the date one year from now.

By the time one year has passed you will not just believe that the devil exists, you will know he exists. You'll ask why is this happening at various times.

The answer is because you invited it to.

I'm not really sure what you are asking. If one is a Christian, then one has to believe in the Devil, because Jesus did.

Most Americans say that they are Christian, so obviously most of us believe in the devil. Why not? If one can believe in God, Angels and other spirits, why is belief in Satan so hard?

I believe that the devil is real, but I don't worship the Devil. Even God believes in the Devil. He believes that the Devil is real, but he doesn't worship the Devil. I praise God with all my heart, all my soul, and all my mind, and no one can ever take that away.

well if 50% of Americans are Christians then yes, they believe in the devil. The fact that anyone believes in such a messed up fallacy of a religion is sadder than just believing in the devil.

I believe in the existence of the devil as portrayed in the Bible. Jesus spoke with the devil as I'm speaking with you, so I assume his literal existence.

Sorry if you find my belief (and the possibility of its being true) as "sad."

Nope. The devil is a christian construction used to vilify the gods of earlier religions.
