If chlorine kills the AIDS virus, let's get all the gays to drink some.

"Bottoms up, boys!" Er....on second thought, "Cheers!"

Hello:
This is in response to your question about getting infected with HIV by swallowing pool water.
HIV is a very fragile virus, contrary to what most people think. It cannot live outside the human body for very long.
The likelihood of you getting infected by the HIV virus by swallowing pool water after an infected person was in the water is virtually 0%. Even if the person bled from a cut and some blood got in the pool or the person urinated in the pool it is still highly highly highly unlikely that you could contract HIV. The chlorine itself would kill the HIV virus instantly (again, it is a very fragile virus). Your chances of contracting Hepatitis B or C is 1000 times greater than getting HIV. I am a Board Certified Family and Preventive Medicine physician but I also treat a great number of HIV/AIDS patients, so trust me, you will not get HIV from drinking that pool water.
I hope this helped answer your question and alleviate the concerns you have.
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.

You cannot get aids except by the transfer of body fluids.

So, the person with aids would have needed to have bled, urinated, defecated, or had mucous in the pool.

Even in that event, the aids virus dies very quickly once exposed to air or on a surface.

Also, chlorine kills HIV, so if the pool was chlorinated, nothing to worry about.

id worry more about him pinching a loaf off into your pool..your pretty safe aids is a blood born disease and it dies when exposed to air not to mention the pool has chlorine in it..dont worry..so give him a kiss and tell him your sorry.

I suppose that you could if the infected person urinated in the pool and you happened to get the unlucky mouthful.

no if the virus hits air it dies and it can only be tranferred through bodily liquids so even if the person spit or even peed in the pool u'll be fine i hate getting pool water in my mouth *_*

Extremely unlikely, as the water and the chlorine will pretty much kill viruses and bacteria.
