dogs have something called hot spots. they are exactly what they sound like, itchy spots that they dogs will lick and chew raw. you should take him to the vet and the vet will give you medicine, clean the area and give you a cone to put on your dogs head. They will chew it raw though so make sure you take him in soon. It is a very common problem so don't fret.

Your dog probably has ringworm, which is not actually a worm, but a very itchy skin fungus that is similar to jock itch or athlete's foot in people. See the vet for some pet-safe ointment for it. It is a very persistent fungus and it is conditioning your dog to bite at himself and pull out hair. It could also be fleas.

It could have fleas, or a hot spot where a flea bit it and now it keeps chewing on that spot. If they have pain they will sometimes chew on that spot also. Take it to the vet!!!

This is typically referred to as a "hot spot" and it can become infected. There are topical creams and even a roll-on that work pretty well available at your pet shop.
