You see that more in movies than TV.....and thats because it comes down to advertising dollars. Someone, somewhere would probably get offended, call for a boycott of the shows sponsers, making the sponsers demand a re-write.......

ITs sad to think things are like that but they are.

I'm from a multi racial household (hispanic and white) and this is my opinion:

Don't most ethnic groups tend to stick to their own? Not always.. but most towns are fairly segregated. The hispanics get those blocks, the blacks get these blocks.. the whites at this end of town.. the american indians get some crappy little reservation in the middle of nowhere.

So anyways.. there are plenty of shows where they have interacial relationships but if you are asking to make it commonplace it won't happen. Everything that goes into tv shows is based on what people want to see, they do polls, studies, etc. .. and figure that for certain show types they reach certain demographics and those different demographics prefer to see different things on tv.

While interacial relationships aren't the new hot thing, they aren't rare either... if you really think that tv stations are getting together once a year to plan how they will NOT show such relationships then you have issues my friend.

You found something good in your life.. run with it.. stop worrying about trivial things... TV is not supposed to be a reflection of YOUR particular lot in life.

oh and BTW, after looking through some of the other answers I wanted to add that WHITES are not the only discriminators here, I'm sure that if you watch BET there are probably LESS inter-racial relationships on there then on say.. FOX. In fact BET probably has less of said relationship type then most other major outlets. But like the point I made above, it's all based on what makes money and the demographic that watches the stations. Blacks enjoy making money just as much as white people do, some of you need to stop being so close minded on the topic of racism.. because you can educate all the "rich white men" you want about the black culture but if blacks don't also educate themselves about other races nothing will ever change.

It takes two, my friends...

It seems that way to you, but to me it seems that there are quite a few interracial relationships being shown. That's because I'm a senior citizen and I remember when there were none. These relationships stir up deep feelings on both sides among those who feel there shouldn't be intermixing because the white woman is unfair competition for the black woman who outnumbers black men at least 6 to 1. Others don't like it because they think it causes a lot of psychological problems for the children of these relationships and many white men resent it because of the myth that black men are sexually superior and white women should be put on a pedestal, i.e. too good for black men. Black men have been burned, hanged, and castrated for having relationships with white women and some are still being beaten because of it. It of course, is more complex than this, but these are a few of the reasons. TV sponsors and executives that support this type of viewing are probably in the minority. The media is fueled the need to pay bills by pleasing sponsors.

Media is controlled by money, and who owns the money in this country? 5% of the population hold 95% of the nation's wealth, and even though, there are a few black entertainers, they have no voice in this business, there are not enough of them.
I have noticed for example, that when a black popular person(i.e. Rick James, Barry White)dies, the media will not spend 2 days portraying their lives, whereas they will portray the life of a guy like Peter Jennings for 2 or 3 days. That is racism in a very subtle form and as long as those who made it are content with what they have instead of going out there fighting for the rights of all blacks, that long will nothing change.
There is rarely a movie portraying interracial relationships, and usually the bad guys in movies got to be black. Talking will solve nothing, action, but everyone who made it simply got content and is afraid to lose it...

Racism! It's still alive and well and although ppl will tell you in your face that they are not racist and believe in equal opportunities for all, blah, blah, blah.....behind close doors it's a whole other thing. Racism is about power and hatred and to give someone equal billing/opportunity is like relinquishing some of your power. And the fear is that those who have been oppressed will then oppress. The media is dominated by whites, whether it's ownership, actors, writers, advertisers, etc. If you look at the type of shows that are out now, there is probably less diversity and fewer shows taking 'risks' and addressing social issues. In fact we seem to be going backwards.......

Society has not accepted your type of relationship. Look who controls the purse strings. Companies with leaders from the very old school. So to the networks, what is more important, diversity or making a big profit. I think you know the answer. To be frank with you if you want to move up in society and really make an impression in life, find you a white man. This sounds hard and cold, but in fact reality sometimes is very hard for anyone to accept. Please do not call me a racist, because I am not. Look at your big companies with female leaders and look who their spouses are, then you will see even though noone agrees with it, it is unspoken.

Because the majority of America(mainly whites) does not accept interrcial couples and seeing them on TV would make alot of people uncomfortable especially older whites who are against interracial dating. Its all about the money boo. Not sayin im againt it because ive actually dated outside my race. But how many ppl would watch a show that has interracial couples on it?........not many. That "show" would get cancelled after the first week of airing. and yes i agree they do go out of their way to not show it. Which honestly i dont understand why. Alot of white men are in denial with the fact that all their white women are gettin snatch up by the brothas so the try as much as possible not to be reminded by it.
much luv =)

I agree. When they show a IR it's always stereotypical. Like a white man with a Asian girl or a Black man with a white girl. I want to see them show a IR that doesn't a involve a white person with a person of color. How about showing a Latino/Black relationship, or a Asian/Black relationship, or a Asian/Latino.

Yeah tv sucks badly , they don't show the true America. They don't show anything that shows how america is made up of many immigrants with different cultures...Perhaps they show it in history shows, but not as part of the normal content of other shows.. Like in reality shows, they go out of their way not to show any laborers, or immigrants.. Take that Laguna Beach whatever shows in MTV. Hello!!! who's doing the maintenance of these white kids' houses.....and NOPE they don't want to show or make mention of any of them. When you watch those shows it seems like all the people that live there are white and rich which is not true.

they don't show them unless they speak perfect english or close to it and are kind of wealthy..For example, they always show Asians everywhere, including commercials, but not Hispanics who have accents. Shows that have School AS their theme, Who do you see? Asians, white and black. but all of them with perfect american accents. So was i ever in highschool? Apparently not according to TV producers.

Mainstream America does not accept interracial relationships. Television is geared to attract the most viewers so the shows must reflect what the most people like.
