Why is everyone so mean about crack? It's REALLY addictive, so just answer the question and be serious!!

I imagine long-term use would sear the lungs a bit and potentially make one cough up blood... or the person smoking might have bleeding gums. Then if the pipe is used by another person with bleeding lips, gums, or gingivitis, Hep C can be potentially transmitted.

Technically, you can not catch hep C from a crack pipe. Hep C is a blood borne disease, and there has to be blood to blood contact in order for this to happen. There is some risk with sexual contact, which is why people on any type of drugs are at risk for contracting Hep C. Many drug users, especially crack users, raise money to support their habit by resorting to prostitution. The practice of unprotected sex is the risk factor. Not the sharing of the pipe.

I've never seen crack cocaine, let alone smoke it. What I do know is that sharing an instrument that has contacted a potentially infected person will increase your risk of contracting a virus, especially if there is saliva or blood present on the instrument. If you're so concerned, the best answer is don't smoke crack in the first place. Good luck to you and try to stay safe.

I believe hep C is transmitted through blood so more than likely no, you will not get it. However, there is still a chance that it could go through saliva I would think and so yes you can catch it, but your chances are probably slim.

Still my advice, dont do crack or use a crack pipe

Hepatitis C is a bigger risk to you than AIDS, because it is easier to catch. Due to the delicate nature of it's protein coat, the AIDS virus cannot survive outside the human body...expose it to air and it's a goner. Hep C has a thick, durable coat of amino acids surrounding it's RNA center...it can remain viable for weeks in a dried up blood smear.

Given the fact that drug users are the countries biggest carriers of Hepatitis C, I would say sharing a crack pipe is like playing Russian roulette. Sooner or later...you are going to lose.
