When he didn't interfere at all with modern society flying to the moon, and beyond?

Genesis 11:4-8
4They said, "Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top (C)will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves (D)a name, otherwise we (E)will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth."

5(F)The LORD came down to see the city and the tower which the sons of men had built.

6The LORD said, "Behold, they are one people, and they all have (G)the same language. And this is what they began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be impossible for them.

7"Come, (H)let Us go down and there (I)confuse their language, so that they will not understand one another's speech."

8So the LORD (J)scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth; and they stopped building the city.

Sounds like God was worried that they would become too powerful and 'nothing would be impossible for them'.
Just like modern scientific society which landed on the moon. :)

Well, there's a little more to the story than what we have in the Genesis account.

The Tower of Babel is thought by scholars to be a Babylonian ziggurat built in honor of Baal and for worship of him. The remains of one such structure still stand and can be viewed here:
www.bibleprobe.com/babel.htm

Besides this being a story about the Babylonian ziggurant-building practice, it is also what is called at etiology--that is, a story designed to explain the origin of something --in this case the story of how languages came into existence.

Good question! I've actually pondered this one over a few times myself, and I've come to the conclusion that it was an issue of humility and respect. The Babylonians tried to become as powerful as God and show that they, too, could reach the heavens (Now, if you're a biblical conspiracy theorist like me, this part would be the turning point that made the world as we know it exactly that, but that's another rant for another time.)

Throughout history, God's done a pretty good job of proving people wrong. The tower of Babel came crashing down, the Titanic sunk, and Michael Bay keeps finding work. It's all an issue of perspective.

He wasn't "worried" about it at all.

He saw that this was a good time to start
the new languages and cultures.

God changed their languages so that they couldn't
understand each other anymore. So each person found the group that spoke his or her language and these
individual groups then had to unite and start a new life all over somewhere else because there was no point in hanging around other groups that didn't speak your language. There was no way they could communicate with others outside their language-group.

So, you're missing the point. This was the start of new
languages and everyone spread out all over the world
with their new language-culture.

He wasn't "worried" about anything. It was a matter of their pride. They had said, "...and let us make us a name for ourselves..." (Genesis 11:4)

The idea was that they were doing the same thing man did in the garden. Trying to be God.

God put an end to it by confusing their languages, and since they didn't have the ability to translate for each other at the time, they dispersed.

all in the motive, probably.

Those people actually were seeking to build a tower to be as high as God. To be His equal. Now, He knew it wasn't going to happen, but He wasn't going to let them waste their time doing this when He wanted them to go their separate ways and populate the earth.

I don't recall NASA ever saying one of their goals was to fly to the moon so they could be equal with God. That would have probably made CNN.

i think God saw that with everyone having the same language and being united that technology and civilization would have boomed thousands of years ago....maybe it would have led to man destroying himself or man deciding he didnt need God thereby ruining any chance of saving humankind for the purpose it was originally created for...so what God did was delay everything from happening up until about the last 100 years so He could fill His quota of the number of men to be saved.

The Tower of Babel was meant to glorify man and to attempt to prove that man can be a god.

The lunar landings were kept in a balance--yes, to see what man can do and to learn new things but not to glorify man as a god.

That's the difference, I think anyway.

The tower was meant to glorify man and not God. He stopped openly interfering in the affairs of man once Jesus Christ was born. Only during the tribulation will He openly interfere in the affairs of man again.....

It doesn't say God was "worried" They were moved with pride and ambition, preferring their own glory to God’s honour.
Meaning, that he declared by effect, that he knew their wicked enterprise; for God’s power is everywhere, and neither ascends nor descends. Because God is everywhere. He did this to punish them. (that's the best way I can say it) Also God doesn't have to interfere in anything. Everything is His.

You miss the point of the tower!

It was an attempt for their own salvation.
It was a statement that we don't need God we can save our selves.
