I just lost a 14 year old dog last year to cancer. He also had arthritis and was in alot of pain right before he died. He was about 50 pounds and the vet said it was fine to give him a baby aspirin (81 mg) every day to help with the pain.

I own several breeds of dogs and the vet recommends Bayer childrens chewable aspirin for them all. It tends to help, depending on the degree of pain. If the pain is stimulating from something serious...please consult your vet before any home remedies are given. Hope your pet gets better soon.

Unless authorized by a vet never give a dog anything other than aspirin because their systems are much different than ours. As to the dossage...that is another question, you made no mention of the dogs size/weight.

Why does it need pain meds? A vet is the only one that can tell you the safe dosage for pain meds for a dog.

You can probably phone a pet supply store and ask them. If there is such a thing, they'd certainly know about it and may even have it in stock.

When I was growing up, we used to give our dog half a "baby aspirin" when he had headaches. It never seemd to hurt him (he lived to be 14 years old) but I don't know if aspirin is still considered ok for dogs, even in such low doses.

Yes you can give dogs asprin plain old 325mg per tablet asprin.
Give with food and give 1/4 of a tablet per 10 pounds of body weight and you can give it twice per day.
A 40 pound dog would get one tablet.
I start all of mine at one tablet and see how they tolerate that and go up if I feel I need to.
Do not ever give Tylenol or Ibuprofin to dogs.

Aspririn is safe for dogs. Do not give Tylenol. Don't know the size of your dog, so cant give you a dose. Check with your vet.

You can give your dog half an asprin twice a day....just crush it up and put it in it's food or peanutbutter. But be sure to only use asprin. But if you have to use it for a long time i would suggest going to the vet.

My vet gave me some rymadil (spelling?) when my older dog had arthritis. I think it is kind of like doggy Advil. Definitely talk to your vet before giving any meds to your dog.
