my family and i have had our dog for about 3yrs now and he is the best dog but our stepdad(who we been livin with for bout a year) wants a collie. NOW dont get me wrong i would love another dog and so would our dog but heres the thing our old dog has to stay outside because our stepdad says he doesnt like the all the fur around the house but he wants the new collie to be an inside dog. he is spoiling the new dog like crazy. now i love'em both but our old dog is like my brother and i can tell his feelings are hurt.i told my stepdad if we can let our older dog in too but he said no. its weird cause our older dog is the size of a baby golden retriever and the collie is gonna be 5 times as big!

what should i do

In my opinion, people whoe get dogs and then just leave them outside all day should not have dogs. What's the point? Boring life for the dog.

You should talk to your mom about it and tell her that you don't think that it is right that your dog has to stay outside and the new dog gets to be inside. Or maybe you can just bring the dog in and keep it in your room for a lil while and then slowly start to let him out around the house more. Then maybe your stepdad will get used to him being in the house. Still doesn't seem fair though.

Try this. If your step dad will not let the dog stay inside the house, then tell him you will stay outside with the dog. Your step dad will think you will not go through with it. Do this for one night. Next day if your step dad does not let your dog back in the house then plan on another night outside with your dog. BUT... call the newspapers, television, radio and tell then that you are living out side because you're not allowed to bring your dog back in the house because of the new puppy. Get media support. Get the neighbors support. When the media shows up at the house, your step dad can explain why the beloved family pet that shared the house for 3 years must live outside.

it depends how old you are, but tell your stepdad it would not be nice if your mother get a new boyfriend and throws him out.??? If you had this old dog and he was always good to you ,then he has as much right in the house then the new one. so if the dogs get along, maybe he can close a eye and let them both in every now and then, specially when it is raining or cold outside. Good Luck

Um,I got news. The colly wil shed like crazy because of fur. So,wheather your stepdad likes it or not,All dogs shed.So no that is not fair.Tell your dad that he needs to stop spoiling this dog and have feelings for the old one just as well.Say''i luv them both, but collies shed a lot too.So stop spoiling this dog just d=because he sheds.ALL DOGS SHED WHEATHER HE LIKES IT OR NOT.That is not fair because the older the dog the more shedding wich means the collie iwl be worse at 3 yrs.

It's definitely not fair at all! It must feel as if your mom had a new baby with your stepdad and now he favors the new baby over you! Talk to your mom about this and really let her know how you feel. Promise to keep the old dog in your room and vacuum up all his hair - and make sure you keep your promise. If she won't back you up, try to spend as much time with your old dog as you can.

that is cruel and not nice. We get dogs at the SPCA all the time and I have seen neglected dogs but what your stepdad is doing is just disgusting. I'm grimacing as I write this. Thats horrible.

in my opinion you should stand up for your older dog because dogs are apart of families too. that is like your step dad saying were had a new baby now you have to sleep outside because we like the new child more .......... or what ever the excuse might be.

you need to talk to your mom. the situation is very unfair. i dont know where you live but if its hot that could cause a lot of problems for your older dog. it is cruel to allow one in and not the other. hopefully your mom will be able to help with the situation. good luck!
