Yes, they're wonderful. Find 1 or 2 airlines that fly where you most often want to go. Get credit cards from those airlines, and charge everything you buy.

I have continental and southwest. Last October I used 65,000 ffmiles and got a free round trip from Baltimore to Cairns, Australia (Qantas is a partner with Continental). I paid $95 airport taxes, that's all. This is the only way to go when you're not pressed for time, because when you fly this way, you don't go the most direct way. I've travelled all around the US that way...and most airlines have partners all over the world, so it's really worth it to start saving your miles as soon as possible.
Good luck!

if u travel a lot then its good to be a member of the frequent flyer's club. depending on the sectors u frequent, u could be the member of a particular airlines, with whom u could travel more frequently & accumulate flying miles. now most of the domestic airlines have tie ups with international airlines. lot of benefits & holiday travelling becomes easier on the pocket. also makes a wonderful gift to give to a loved one as a surprise!
