Traditionally, the wedding band goes on first so it's closest to your heart, and then the engagement ring. However, todays wedding sets often have wedding bands that are "enhancers" for the engagement ring, often having detailed gold work or gemstones. The engagement ring fits into the enhancer band, and can be worn what ever way you like.

My ring, is actually 3 separate rings that we had sodered together. I wear my rings in the order they were give to me--promise ring closest to my hand, followed by my engagement and wedding rings. My sister's engagement ring has a pear shaped diamond. She wears it so the pear is facing up (point of the pear towards her hand) when people look at it, and I think her wedding band is then on the outside.

Do what you'd like. Anymore it doesn't matter, do what you think looks best.

Your wedding ring goes on first, then the engagement ring - which is to protect the wedding ring. At the wedding ceremony, you should have a bare finger, move the engagement ring to your other hand.

Your mom is right. Once you are married, the wedding band goes on first and then the engagement ring. The reasoning behind this is the wedding band, which symbolizes your marriage and your commitment to each other is supposed to be closest to your heart.

The wedding band is to the inside because it is "closest to your heart". Right before I walked down the aisle, I gave my engagement ring to our Pastor (he held our rings). My husband placed both rings during the ceremony. For who ever said it was so if you lost one it would not be the band... my engagement ring (2 karats) was far more expensive than my wedding band... and I don't really want to be losing either of them.

The wedding band is worn closest to you followed by the engagement ring.

Your wedding bands goes on at the wedding, and then your engagement ring goes on after the band. Mom has it correct this time.

your wedding band goes on first because while you are at the altar it is blessed and you're not supposed to take it off again. during the ceremony your engagement ring goes on your right hand and then at some point after the ceremony you can put your engagement ring back on your left finger.

No one is right or wrong - you wear it the way you choose to wear it. I wear my engagement ring on the inside, and the wedding band on the outside.

I was told by our jeweler that the wedding band holds the engagement ring in. I have heard both ways though.
