It might and it might not - depends on what kind of dog it is. I think your mom just doesn't want a dog at all, and this is the reason she has chosen to give you.

Unfortunately, right now it's your parents' house and your parents' money and your parents' rules. It feels like a lifetime now, but sooner than you think you'll be out on your own and can do what you want. In the meantime, you can learn a lot about dogs by reading and maybe volunteering at a local shelter.

The best way to show your Mom that you can be responsible for another life is to prove it every day. Do your homework and your chores on time and with complaining about it. Ask them to let you get an easier pet to start and show them that you can take care of that properly.

Dogs require a lot of time, energy and money to take care of properly. If the dog isn't properly trained, it can chew up your house and your stuff. If it's not housebroken, it can ruin your floors and your furniture. Your parents may assume that you'll get bored with the dog when you start playing sports and dating and go away to college. You can't keep a dog in a dorm or in most apartments. They don't want to be stuck taking care of a dog for 12 years if you can't handle it.

A good pup can cost $1000 or more. Even "free" dogs cost money to take care of. A crate, books and supplies can cost up to $300. Puppy shots are $200, then $100 a year for boosters. Annual Heartworm test and preventative medication $100. Professional trainer $600 and up. Going on vacation? Boarding kennel $40/day. Spaying? $250. That's a lot of money to expect your Mom to lay out for you. Everything is a trade-off - maybe you'd want something else with that kind of money. A computer or sneakers or a cool vacation or another hobby or sport?

BEFORE you get any dog you should read some great books on training. (Try not to pick books randomly - there are a lot of bad books out there also!) These are some of my favorites and you can get them on Amazon.com

LOL no it will not eat your cat but it may bother your cat and it caould stress it out to the point where it could get sick...especially if your cat is older. Also they may even fight and hurt each other and you wouldn't want that would you? i suggest helping other people with their dogs like walking the neighbours or going to your local humane society and volunteering there if you really want a dog that bad! Dogs are a lot of responsibility hunny and you have to be ready to take on that responsibility. Hope it all works out for you:)

It is according to what kind of dog you get. If it is a puppy and is raised with a cat, they usually get a long. But some dogs that have been treated badly by cats will kill a cat. I've seen a lab kill a cat.

Many dogs do well with cats as long as they are raised with them. Look for a shelter dog that is known to be good with cats (they will test them) or get a puppy of a breed that is known to be good with cats. This will not work if you have a skittish cat (runs away) or a dog with a high prey drive (likes to chase).

It won't eat the cat, but they may fight. Your mom may also just not want any more animals in the house.
