via car and with no traffic yahoo maps is stating 22.5 miles and 28 minutes.

i can tell you from experience, it will potentially take much longer that that depending on traffic, date and time of day. the worst time to make this trip would be anytime between 5pm and 7pm during the week, but especially on a friday, due to the rush hour traffic (where it has taking me as long as 75 minutes to make the same trip). don't know about any train available.

depending on your length of stay, would suggest renting a car, as most things you are going to want to do while staying in santa monica and los angeles are going to require a car.

studio city on the other hand, is only about a 10 min drive from burbank airport:

among the more interesting things to see in that part of town are the studio tours of universal and warner bros., as well as the universal citywalk, a promenade with interesting restaurants and shopping attractions.

Studio City is close by car. You can avoid the freeways completely and get there in about 15-20 minutes. You can take buses there as well.

Santa Monica can be difficult. It's only about 25 miles from Burbank Airport, but if you try to drive there during rush hour, it can take 2-3 hours! If, on the other hand, you're driving there at midnight, it'll probably take about 30 minutes.

Rapid transit from Burbank to Santa Monica is problematic at best. The Metrolink meets at the airport and takes you downtown where you can get onto the Metro Red Line. The problem is that the Red Line does not go all the way to the beach, so you'll have to take a bus through West LA. This can be big trouble, because certain streets in West LA can become the stuff of nightmares during the afternoon rush hour.

1. Better rent a car at the Burbank (Bob-Hope) Airport. It will probably cheaper than take a cab. Don't count on train (or metro link, or subways....it's not convenient for you to go around places.)

2. From Burbank to Santa Monica....Burbank Airport - I-5 (South) - US-101 (West) - I-405 (South) - I-10 (West) - CA-1 (Pacific Coast Highway; PCH) - Santa Monica (You're there!)

3. From Burbank to Studio City, I'll say (take traffic conditions in to consideration), less than 10 miles, perhaps 20-25 min.

4. What's fun in Burbank? ... Media City mall, downtown Burbank, one nice restaurant on the hill of the mountain called "Cast Away", where you can overlook the valley.

What's fun in Studio City?....try Universal Studio,.

Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun!!

By car I would give yourself at least an hour. It isn't that far mileage wise but traffic in LA can be horrible. I don't know of a train that goes that way but I think there is one near the airport that goes partway, I think the closest stop to santa monica might be union station. You can check Amtrak. It's probably easier to rent a car or take a cab, but it could be an expensive cab ride. There isn't a lot of public transportation in LA, it's too spread out. Most of the public transportation in LA in by bus, but I don't think I would recommend it. Sorry I don't remember how to get to Studio City. There's not much to do in Burbank but there's lots of fun things around LA. Disneyland, Hollywood, the Getty, restaurants, the beach, the promenade in Santa Monica (3rd st).
