my father-in-law had to do one and what he did was totally remove the sliding window and installed plexi glass then cut a hole and installed the AC but that was very expensive!!!
you might be better off getting a portable AC!!
check Home Depot.com or Wal-Mart.com to see one!!!
I have one in my living room!!!

If the window is up high, you may want to install or have a handyman install a little shelf outside the window, so it doesnt fall out and hit someone. But if it is fairly secure once you set it in the window, just close the window as tightly against it as you can. It should be slanted slightly so the water/condensation will flow out the back and not in on your floor. You can cut cardboard or foam to place over the opening left after closing the window, or you can measure and go to your local hardware store and have them cut you a piece of plexiglass to use.
