Most newspapers have archives online nowadays, especially if it's in a larger town.

Just type in the town's name, and go to their website and look for the local newspaper by name. Use that in your next search on Google, or Yahoo, or ask.com. Since you know the year, it shouldn't be too hard to do a search in the archives for shooting and using the year as your key words.

The SS Death Index site is listed below, I've used it to find old classmates, on the chance that they might have died in the 30 years since we graduated. And if you need help, just go to my profile and email me, and I'll be more than glad to do what I can. I've done quite a bit of research, so might be able to find something you might miss.

Good luck!

If you know the state/ town then you can look up past newspapers. Most libraries have old newspaper on microfilm if not online. Also the goverment lets you look up a person's death certificate online (if you know their name and some stats). The website is something like the Social Security .gov or something.... hope this helps

Yes, there is. You can go to the main reference library in your city and they should have microfilm copies of all newspapers. You can also phone the newspaper to see if they have an archive of old newspapers.

As to finding if a person is gone go to http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi, as to finding the information about the shooting, your library/newspaper is the best source.
