I read somewhere they were going to extend their basic warranty. What are they extending it to? Also, is gm and Chrysler still 3/36000?

Rather BOLD of them, I think.

Ford used to change there warranty all the time back in the late 80s and early 90s. Ford and Mercury has been 3/36 and Lincolns 4/45. At 1 time Ford was 2/24, I hope they do go up, to at least 5 /50. Ford has different warranty's for certain components on there cars and trucks most people don't know about. The pcm / Computer and the catalytic converter has a 100,000 mile warranty, Seat belts and some restraints I think are 6/60 The power stroke Diesels have a 5/ 100,000 mile with a $100 deductible . Most of they info can be found in the owners manual. Most salesman don't take the time to explain all this. Talk to you local dealers service mangers to get all the info on your make and model.

It's not the basic ..it's powertrain on anything sold after July 15th for any 2007 and later Fords... It's to compete with the Asian manufacturers in warranty coverage. Sort of like what Chrysler did in the 1980s and 1990s to boost confidence in it's product line...

Basic is still 3/36 however.. just major items like the motor, transmission and such will be covered.

GM and Chrysler is still 3/36 but I expect them to come out with their own powertrain warranties real soon.

Depends on what you are talking about. Most of the domestics are 3year/36000 mile warranty. I work for chevy and have not heard of this coming down the pipeline. I know that GMPP will cover you up to 100,000 miles but make sure to get the major guard. Ford will do the same with ESP as I just bought a new Mustang and got the premium guard (smae as GMPP major Guard) I had ESP on the last mustang and was glad I spent 1500.00 on it as the tranny went out at 40,000 miles and I got it fixed for 50.00. Out of curiosity I called around to price getting it overhauled and the cheapest I found was 2300 with a 12/12000 warranty on the tranny

I saw something about it on t.v. recently, but their warranty still can't hold a candle to other companies. I think they are gonna go under anyway. Besides the new extended warranties are very limited.
