By George, I think he's got it!

Well, if you have "faith," then you believe what you've always been told to believe, and you either hate those who don't go along with it and want to kill them, or you feel superior to them and sorry for their poor, damned souls.

But if you exercise that superior brain that God, Nature, The Powers that Be, or Whatever gave you, then you start to question your spoon-fed assumptions and seek out the truth. Congratulations on starting to use your brain: It will serve you well over your lifetime!

There is actually a Buddist answer to this question.

Religion is like a finger pointing up
(ok imagine the index finger pointing up)
Everyone argues over the finger
and they dont get the POINT...

They all have their differing interpretations of a higher power. Each one thinks they are the best one or the only one,
Some religious prophets say very similar things.
Some religions believe in the end of days or revelations.
Some prophets came before others and the oldest religions are nature religions of hunting and gathering societies.

The more I study religions the more Im convinced humanity would be better off without it.

But then, as the sun sets and a rainbow shines, I catch myself saying -nice one God.

Im not sure why I know theres a creator, I just do.

There are many "realities" as people are in this world. Ask any scientist, what is reality? He will not know what to answer. The fact that humans in general are searching for a higher being says something about God. However, humans with all their weaknesses tend to change things, misinterpret things, and put things according to their needs. God exists. It is an experience. The fact that people who have not experienced God but make up stories, make religions contradictory.

I believe in one God, and I believe that He likes variety. That's why He created so many different areas of the world, so many different people to fill them with, and so many different ways for them to worship Him. I think that each religion is right in it's own way, and I think that if you live a good life and treat other people with kindness, love, and respect, then you are doing what God wants, no matter what name you call him by. Of course I can never know that I'm right for sure until I die and meet Him, but this is how I feel in my heart.

Because mankind keeps trying to get around God's rules...All "religion" is man invented because mankind wants an easy way out of this mortal existance...just give him a clear list of rules that match his preconcieved notions and he will be happy painting himeself blue and standing naked on his roof waiting for the aliens to come for him...For example......

However, The Christian Faith...The True Christian Faith is not man invented... The relationship of God to his people is one-on-one and personal... And it is not an easy way out...it is perhaps the hardest way for a mortal to go...That is why it is so often rejected...But for those who do follow God's rules and come to Him in The Way He proscribes... the benifits are worth the struggle to get there... it is easier for some than others... but it is difficult for all....

Perhaps God chooses to reveal himself in various ways at various times, as he sees fit.

Or try this on for size: God has an infinite number of "faces" (imagine an infinite-sided die -- like the ones used in RPGs but infinitely large), and certain people see certain sides.

OR: We will all end up in Hell, in big long lines, with some demon crowd-controller yelling, "Jews, Muslims, Christians, all in this line. Buddhists over here. Why? Oh, well it turns out the Eskimos had it right after all."

God himself made the "one true religion" as you all call it.
He also warned that there would be many who come to decieve and to keep some from believing in Him.
The Bible calls them false teachings, false gods, false prophets.
The Bible calls many religions by name, such as the religions that worshiped statues, or things that God made such as nature. He made it, but He didnt say worship it, He said worship Him.
Many religions will tell you that they worship the same God i do as a Christian, but nothing that their book or teachings say actually correspond with the original Bible.

Because many people believe that they, and only they, are worshipping the one true God.
The many Protestant denominations arose from petty bickering, basically.
Religion, as my World Religions professor said, is largely culturally and geographically based.

Its all the same really. All western religeons Islam, Christianity & Judaism all refer to there being one god and all recoignise that each are the same god.
Also islam teaches that all religeon is a different path to allah - that is why they are tollerent to other religeons - except the minority.

Because only one is right (Christianity). All the others are tailored to what the maker of the religeon wanted to believe
