In the simple form
A day is a 1000 years of man and a 1000 years of man but 1 day to God
Here to understand

The first 8 days of God for us may have been well over 6 Billion years.
A DAY of God is but a day to him only, for that matter a day to God might be less then an hour to us (for a given day)
It may even be like trying to use a Light Year as a definition of time. If its over your head put it on the shelf.

Genesis 1:3-5

"And God said, "Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light, Day, and the darkness, Night; And the evening and the morning were the first day."

God never said the light he called Day, was also called the sun. "Light" was created the first day, the "sun" was created the on the fourth day.

Genesis 1:14, 16, 19
"And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night" (that was the sun.)
"And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night; he made the stars also. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day."

It was then that the sun was called the light. But "light" itself was made before the sun. It's in the scriptures...

God lives in a non time/space environment. Also the sun would create the light he made the first day. ;P That story was put there to make people think the church had all the answers. On the first day, god said let there be curiosity, the second day he said let there be an adventure, the third day he said form a party, the fourth day he said have a common goal, the fifth day he said understand each other and work towards that goal, the 6th day he said when that is achieved, find a new adventure, the 7th day he said now you create the adventure

The creation is written from the perspective of one standing on the earth. The stars ,sun and moon were created on the first day but only became visible on the fourth day because of atmospheric condition pertaining to the water shield encompassing the earth. This also accounts for higher oxygen levels and lower radiation level. In these conditions there would be no damage to chromosomes and animals could live longer and grow larger.

Yup, it's pretty hard to time a "day" without a sun to measure it by. Maybe God made a watch first, then the sun.

what about the other Billions of Billions of other stars in the universe? did those come before or after ours?

Good point, and notice also that the light and dark were created/separated before the sun and the stars were even created... explain that one.
