That depends and fish are very funny especially Trout.
There is a lake in Georgia that has World record Bream, but they won't bite.
I have tried and tired until I figured out that they were feeding on certain bugs that hit the water. When the June bugs started to hit the air in Georgia I would ctach them at night and fish them in the morning at the lake. I finally hit the jack pot and landed a 3 pound Bream.
When May camer around, I fished May flys and bam...I landed a 3 1/2 Bream. I have yet to catch the Worl recrod Bream in the Lake, but they are there.

I have found two flies that work best for trout fishing. One is a scud, which is similiar to an insect found in the water in many trout streams. The other is a wooly worm. Both work excellent.
For bluegill I have found a sneaky peat or a white spiderlegs popper works best.

It all depends on the venue you're fishing at, and what insects the fish you're trying to catch are feeding on.
Personally I often find a COACHMAN works well where I fish.
