I usually assume that the United States has around 300 million people and the world has around 6.5 billion people. That would be:
300 / 6500 = approx. 4.6%
So I'd say between 4 and 5 percent.

your in luck i was watching the discover channel last week and in the show they were talking about world population and the U.S makes up 5%of the worlds population.Hope this helps you
