My son is 5 years old, he is going to start kindergarden in August. My son is hipED not getto but dress like an older kid and name brand clothes and shoes with long braids but he has both of his ears pierced. He will be attending a private school this year, and there's not alot of mix kids there. Will they pick on him because of his piercing? He had wanted! If he come home and say he want to take it out, should I? Or teach him to be his self?

Wouldn't it be better to instill in your five year old pride in how he chooses to look and therefore render him impervious to being picked on? Make it clear to him that no one has the right to pick on him for how he chooses to look, who he is, his background, or anything - - children must be told early that they are not to be treated with scorn or derision.

We all have our own opinions on how we dress. And I am almost certain that his piercings may not be accepted. Schools have dress codes and where I live they are closely monitored and actions are taken if you do not follow the dress code. It might be wise to take them out if this is an option you are willing to do. Ask yourself what kind of roll model are you for him? We as parents hold the keys to setting the foundation for our children. His education should come as something to embrace and take pride in. So let that be your focus for him and you. Fashions come and go, and each school has their own guidelines to follow. As for the braids, that too is another factor that will be addressed to what the school sets as acceptable. I hope he has the best start you can give him.. Well wishes.

Well one thing about being yourself is you always have the right to change your mind! And at the ripe old age of five; his fashion sense may change by the day! If he wants them out by all means - take them out! I have to agree with the hair thing - he's not a girl and there are definately school dress codes. Most of all I hope he has a happy, positive learning experience. Because after all - that's what it's all about.

I think its fine if he wears neame brands and dresses older, my 19 month old does!
I love those clothes...too cute.
I doubt he will get picked on, but the two earing thing is very feminine.
Keep one lose the other.
Thats it.
Other kids might get jealous of him because he has cool clothes.
My boy often gets mistaken for a girl, even if he wears boy clothes.

Yes, I do. Prim and Proper Private Schools won't allow it, anyway. Take them out and it's fine he wears brand-name clothes, just make sure they don't get stolen.
P.S.-
Dear Lord, cut his hair! He is not a girl! (I'm not sure what race you are, but if it is CAucasion, it has to look funny! Afro-american wouldn't look odd at all, that's how most wear it...)

WELL MOMMY.. (MISTAKE ONE)- YOU DONT LET YOUR 5 YR OLD WEAR WHAT HE WANTS... YOU ARE THE PARENT AND WHEN HE IS OLD ENUFF TO PAY FOR HIS OWN CLOTHES THEN I THINK HE IS OLD ENUFF TO SAY WHAT HE WANTS TO WEAR..........IF YOU DONT WANT KIDS TO MAKE FUN OF HIM.. BE A PARENT AND TAKE CONTROL OF THINGS THAT MIGHT HURT HIM IN LONG RUN!!!!!!!
