What kind of hotel is that?!!
Well that's Christianity for ya....
They want everyone to do what they say or we will "go to hell".

If you feel pressured to become a Christian, just by the sight of a book, it might be your conscious that is pressuring you... not the people who left it. If they began putting the Koran in hotel rooms, I wouldn't feel pressured to become Islamic.

Ok, you feel pressured? How? The Bible is just sitting there. If it bothers you, put the Bible away in a drawer or something so you won't have to see it.
As for the question, does not annoy me a bit. At least if I forget my Bible, I have one to read right there in the room.

I'm thinking that the money spent for all those great and nifty bibles could be better spent on feeding the poor or curing cancer or some other "biblical" plague that affects us on an everyday basis. This instead of a book that usually sits unread and can be found free in a church, Internet, etc.

No, because I can ignore them or ask that they be removed before check in if I so choose. There is some great poetry in the Bible, and I actually crack open those hotel Bibles once in a while.

They don't annoy me. I know that those who put the bibles in there did it because they care about me. I don't feel pressured. I usually just forget they are there unless i really need something to read.

Does the phone book make you feel like you are being pressured to become a telephone operator?

Nope, I just take them and toss them in the trash. It's not the hotels that put them there, it's the Gideons.
If that's what they want to waste thier money on instead of helping people in need, then fine by me.

In really dodgy hotels like in dodgy bits of Paris they can be quite useful for threatening people who try to come into your room

In Tokyo Japan I had both the Christian and th Buddhist BOOK!
The only time I really get annoyed is when they whisper to me-- or get out of their closed drawer to go to the bathroom,
They have also been known to snore - but putting them under a spare pillow is usually sufficient.
REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
