A lot of places do that anyway. I was given a very in depth lie detector test and a hair sample analysis before I was even allowed to attend the Police Academy.

But what exactly are you trying to accomplish by giving these tests? If someone is a very good liar, then their body will not respond in the ways required to set off a lie detector. And not all untrustworthy people use drugs, so nothing there would show up in a hair analysis.

I went through the Academy with several of the best people I have ever known, and I trust them with my life every day. But there were also a few other people in there that we didn't realize were problems until later. We just had to deal with disciplining/firing, and in a couple cases, arresting them when the problems came to light.

Lie detectors are only marginally reliable in many cases and a lot of times drugs aren't involved in being a bad person. These are just a couple of the tools that we already use to try to weed out people who don't need to wear a badge. But no matter how many tests you give, sometimes the only way to find the truth is the test of time. The most important tool in getting rid of bad officers is the good officers who don't want anyone tarnishing the meaning behind the badge.

The safety of the public would be much better is more people were armed.
It has been found that the crime rate in areas where a lot of people are always armed, is way down.
That would also mean we need less cops, and save the money to boot. Besides, though cops are rarely there when you need help, you are always there.

If you try to raise the standard for law enforcement officers, you will have to pay more for them.

They do a good job with less than ideal resources.

Maybe you should have these done to you so you can post here.
