My dictionary gives the word for blueberries as "arandano" but none of the Spanish speakers I know (from Mexico or Guatamala) seem to know this word, or what blueberries are for that matter.

Also, is "baya" a common word for berry?

It is "arándano." It doesn't grow far enough south for Latin Americans to harvest in any quantity.
