I have to disagree with your premise. First, I think it's a great victory for Floyd and his Phonak teammates and sponsors. Second, I think it's terrific that another American won. Still, while I would have been disappointed for Floyd had he not been able to recover from his Stage 16 disaster and win, I would have been glad for Oscar Pereiro or any rider that might have won. Winning the Tour de France is an amazing accomplishment. Floyd's story is very compelling to us Americans in particular because of his country of origin, but his background and his ability to ride and win with a degenerating hip bone make him an appealing champion to fair-minded people everywhere.
