1. Physicians are being pushed out of business by the cost of malpractice insurance by a legal system that rewards litigation.

2. Nurses are being overworked in an inefficient system causing burnout. Meanwhile students are on 2 year wait lists to join nursing programs.

3. The pharmaceutical companies are almost all for profit. There is just one, which was just recently created which is a non-profit. However drugs are patented so that severely limits their ability to make the current drugs. They are able to make generic drugs, and research some drugs, but R&D is expensive.

4. We have an aging population. We must have an aggresive pro imigration policy coupled with strong education in order to have an economy to support this aging population since our birthrate will not cover it. We will also need to increase the % of the population working in health care to provide care as their needs increase.

I think those are the biggies:
Stop punishing/ pushing out the Docs.
Stop beating up/ bottlenecking the nurses
Get cheaper drugs
More/ and Better educated young people to care for the old.

The fact that you cannot deduct health insurance premiums from your taxable income if you choose to insure yourself is grossly unfair, considering that employers can deduct these costs as expenses. I can see no reason why the IRS gives this advantage only to employers. If employees were to pay for their own health care services than they could pick and choose the services that they really need, they would have the ability to hire or fire their service provider rather than relying on their employer, and the policy would be owned by the individual rather than the employer. This is a shame, because the employee really is paying for the policy anyway (through a portion of his productivity) Its really an illusion that the employer is providing the coverage.
