I just read an answer (to a question about language skills) that was a classic of the genre. The answerer started with (I will quote) "look okay i don't mean to be rude when i say this but honestly what do u think, its not called being lazy it's called just using computer." She went on for nine more lines, and the only subsequent punctuation mark was the period at the end of the entire rant. If this is not rude and lazy, what do you call it?

I would call them the ruler of the run-on sentences! How can we call someone lazy who puts so much effort into avoiding punctuation? Thats impressive!!! We should all be so inspired.

Either that or he/she is just an idiot that shouldn't have access to a keyboard :o)

Well, I don't mean to be rude...just kidding. I agree with you completely. Instead of warning me, I just appreciate honest answers. When I was a child my mom taught me that if I couldn't answer someone without being rude, then I shouldn't answer them. I wish other people followed the same rules. I like your question. I've found that I've quit asking questions...I've gotten my feelings hurt too many times by rude and sometimes offensive answers to my legitimate questions.

How about the proverbial "I don't mean to change the subject, BUT..." Of course they meant to do exactly just that. Goofy. Some people just aren't good conversationalists, I suppose.

I can't stand people who do that, they think by saying, "I don't mean to be rude, no offense, etc." it gives them an excuse to be the biggest asshole in existance.

When people say to me, in person, "I don't mean to be rude, but..." I usually ask them why they're being rude if they don't mean to be. It usually stops them in their tracks.
