I hurt the top of my foot a week ago running. I've taken medicine to bring down the swelling and worn a support but its not getting much better. I have an important sports event in 3 weeks time and I'm getting a little bit worried.

Sometimes its fine but in the morning and nights it gets worse.

I'm on my feet with my job, so rest unfortuantely isnt an option.

I'm not sure that the doctor would do much, as I can walk and it feels like a muscular pain.

Any advice? Thanks in advance!

You may want to see your doc for an x-ray to rule out a stress fracture. I had one on the top of my foot once and your symptoms sound very familiar. Good luck.

First of all, you need to rule out a fracture! Walking on a stress fracture is not going to get you ready for your sports event. Second, why not see a podiatrist? Muscular strain usually does not cause that much swelling. Ankle sprain might, but somone has to examine your foot to determine what is going on! Good luck

depends o where you were hit.
I once had an injurie on one of the vains to the top of my foot. It hurt like hell if I had any form of contact on it for quite a few weeks. The pain gradually decreased but it is still a sensitive area on my foot. If you had a nasty bruise this might be it. otherwise have it x rayed to check if nothing is broken.

put ice on it , sit down and keep it up in the evenings.

How about asking a sports physiotherapist. They will help for sure, and if it needs to be strapped for your event at least they will do it properly. Good luck.

put a bandage arond it or some icy hot but seriously see a doctor for some x-rays to determine the actual cause.

you might try rubbing alcohol on it, or you might soak it in some warm Epsom salt for a while.
