sounds like your cat has what my dog has. my dog is allergic to fleas. whenever she gets bit by one she breaks out into a rash and gets so itchy that she pulls out her fur. that is probably why your cat coughs up a lot of hairballs. so my advice is:

1) do NOT use frontline. even though its advertised for killing fleas and ticks, it almost exclusively kills ticks. it is not very effective on fleas. buy Advantage

2) do not buy one of those little satellite dishes for your cat to prevent him from scratching. he'll go crazy

3) go to the vet and he will give your cat a shot of penecillin for the infection. then follow up by washing your cat and putting advantage on him.

if you follow all the things i said then he should stop itching in a few days. even if the cat does not have any fleas at the moment the rash will persist. so do the things i said :)

hartz flea products have been known to kill cats and make many sick. Never ever use any type of hartz flea products on your cat. wash you cat very good to get all the hartz spray off of him Thats what caused him to be ill and get to the vets. but wash your cat now. hes licking and still getting the Hartz in him by licking his fur

Well i would say that your cat has picked up a disease that isn't very healthy because of all the vommiting and fleas. I would try another vet because maybe that vet doesn't have the right answer. Hope this works for you

Definitely take the kitty to the vet. As for the vomiting, it's normal for cats to have hairballs, but I'd still mention the vomiting to the vet.

Most over the counter stuff is not too effective. Your vet can advise you on what needs to be done

He probably had too many fleas and it made him sick. He needs a vet.

sounds like it needs a flea dip, but if your cat has fleas so does you house, you may need a good bug bomb too
